So last year i switched out an eotech and aimpoint for a vortex pst 1-4x and burris mtac 1-4x. I was shooting this morning at 100yds and. One group was a clover leaf but all would have fit inside 1"-1.25".I know the loads are very accurate, but how tight do yall average running the 1-4x set up.

I switched to a 1-4x last year on the AR I keep in the truck driving around the lease. My groups did open up when I switched from a 4-16x50. With that said, my groups are still very respectable and I wouldn't hesitate shooting a deer at 100-200 yards and would take shots on hogs or coyotes at much greater distances.

I don't have a 1x4 on my ar but when I do on an 30-06 I find that when I use diamond targets and line the crosshairs up with the tips of the diamonds I'm able to shoot sub 1 inch groups.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I think your set up, how you are holding/position/ etc matter more than the scope unless the scope is not mounted right.

A lot depends on the target used when using lower power scopes IMO. The ones I like on the range for shooting groups the crosshairs almost cover the dot but can see a little of the dot at all 4 corners of the reticle. Doing that have shot sub 1" groups from the bench with handguns, cannot do that from field positions though (know it is me not the gun or scope). Had a Wycliff 45-70 with a straight 4X scope that if it wasn't touching cloverleaf groups from bench at 100 yards it was dang sure my fault.

For shooting game have killed yotes at 200+ yards with 2X so good enough for hunting IMO.

I have a 1.5-5x20 Leupold Mark 4 MR/T (SPR reticle) on my AR with a Daniel Defense 16" M4 profile upper and have shot a best of .3" 3-shot group and .8" 5-shot group at 100 yards with handloads using 55 gr Hornady SP. I was fairly shocked as I didn't think it would group that well with that setup. Most of my 5-shot groups are around 1" if I wait a while between groups, otherwise it strings vertically when the barrel heats up.

My 1-4 is the Trijicon green triangle. So it's not all that precise. I suppose if I was running a reticle with real cross hairs I could shoot better groups.

The PST should yield better groups because of the crosshairs covering less of the target. The MTAC, I think has a 2moa center dot, so I would consider a 2moa group good. I have a Tac30, 2moa center dot, and shoots a 3 shot group 1-2moa at 100yds.

Have you tried using just the tip of the triangle for aiming?

I have done 1.5" at 200 yards more than once with my MTAC.

Mtac at 100 yards

The limiting factor is the dot size not the magnification

Lol of course i have. How else would one do it?

In all fairless, the trijicon sights and scopes are not meant for precision. Even their crosshair reticles are too thick. They work fine for hunting and tactical shooting but if you want precision you have to move away from Trijicon

Thanks yall, i figure i just need more trigger time with these. That pst is a 1moa dot so if i got more accustomed to the ser up i think things will shrink.

They are built to shoot men, in battle field conditions.

I'd say you are doing great with groups 1.5" and under with a 1 MOA dot on your reticle. I've struggled comparing loads with a 4X and plan to use 9x or greater to select loads and then switch back to the 1-4 or 1-6.

Very nice. What scope mount are you using?
