Parks and Wildlife has said there is no wolves in Texas. TPW has said all Mexican Red Wolves are extinct as of 1980. Thus since they were extinct, they have been taken off the Endangered Species List. Austin says this is a dog and coyote mix. Does anyone have and pictures similar to this picture ?

Coyotes go through some oddball color phases. Had one a couple years back that looked similar, then again was seeing some so dark they looked black for a few months (Jacob on here got a pic of one of those)

With age comes experience, that experience does not make me an expert. It is just experience gained firsthand from having experienced many things in life. Still experiencing new things everyday and adding to that experience level. grin

Absolutely not a wolf. Dad caught the last known one in Texas back in the 70's

We saw the mexican grey wolves when hunting in the Gila this year, they were similar in size to large coyotes. When we saw them I remember saying to the guide are those wolves because one was staring at use at 80 yards and his face was fatter than normal yotes and he said no those are coyotes, wolves run with their tails straight out. I said well their tails are sticking straight out which was very evident. He then looked through his binos and said yup those are wolves they have collars. They were also very colorful similar to this animal you uave pictured so i could see why one would think that.

Not a "Mexican" red wolf, that's not a specie. The Red wolf only went as far as eastern Texas.

Just ran across this article. USFW is looking to stock more Mexican Grey Wolves to restore their historic range. It talks about Utah and Colorado but west Texas was part of the historic range.

If the USFW want to stock any kind of wolf in your area , tell them HELL NO. fight them every way you can.
your deer herd will go to none existing.
when the wolves interbreed with the coyote you won't be able to shoot either one. this happened in N.C. where I live, with the RED WOLVES, it is really bad.
we would see 25 to 35 deer a morning or evening hunt, no you are lucky to see 1 deer a hunt. Forrest

If its federal land you dont have any choice, NM ranchers have been fighting them since the 90s on the mex. Greys, they tried to put them on more state lands but NM voted against it.

My Dad shot several Mexican Red Wolfs in the 60's while running a tow boat up and down the King Ranch shoreline. Wolfs were pretty hated back then and the rule was you see one you shoot that SOB. They were 100% Mexican Red Wolfs according to the old man. Not coydog's or coyotes. I even questioned him on it and he said, "son you think I'm stupid, I know the difference". I've heard of the wolves from other old timers that said they saw them down South in the 50's & 60's, but never since.

Those would be mexican grey wolves, red wolves do not or have ever existed their as their mostly on the east coast, probably just a matter of calling the same wolf by a different name.

The Red Wolf was re-introduced in '87 around North Carolina, but not in Texas. The population was at like 130 as of the 2010's..looks like a pretty yote to me.
