We have a group of 8 hunters heading down to a free range hunting area for 2 days..the rancher has sent us pictures of hogs in the area but they are only coming to the feeders after dark (I know this is TEXAS hog hunting forum but this area is in Oklhaoma and no night hunting allowed).
So here is our plan at this point. Our friend (the rancher of 4000 acres) has been filling the feeders for us for the past month but still only getting pictures after dark. So our plan is to sit the first evening we get there and see if we can cut the hogs off to the feeders BEFORE dark. We are hoping that this cold front that's coming will get them up and moving. If we don't get on any hogs the first day, we are planning on doing some hog drives. Setting up some posters at the end of the thickets and having others do some stalking through the thick stuff. So my question is..do you think this will work out? We do this type of hunting here in nebraska for deer and have had great success! The guys stalking have been successful as they slowly walked through the area and getting deer up and moving.
Thanks for your assistance!!

Tis from Minnesota, so know bout the success of deer drives... My ta go to place for hog hunts, is WMA & use the 1 man huntsolo drives & been very successfull at taking video's any ways, a friend says i need ta put camera down... Trees have lost their leaves so can see better distances.. & if no pressure at night, hogs will be moving more at night & sleeping during day... Hit the thicek stuff were they'll be bedded.... Best Wishes...

Mandatory orange for that kind of hunt. Also it's safer if shooting from a raised position, so the shot angle is downward, into the ground. If shooting from the ground you might want to limit shooting to the direction away from the beaters. Place stakes to delimit shooting lanes. Also, there's no need for the beaters to make tons of noise as the hogs are pretty smart and should get the picture pretty quickly; just have them wear a bell, or similar. Think carefully before allowing the beaters to shoot; it's probably safer to take turns, depending on the property.
Good luck and have fun!

(I know this is TEXAS hog hunting forum but this area is in Oklhaoma and no night hunting allowed) We had a lease in OK last year. All your Rancher has to do is contact his local Game Warden and ask for permission, worked for us. From the OK Wildlife Dept. site... "Can we hunt hogs at night with firearms? No. It is illegal to hunt hogs at night, except landowners can get a depredation permit from the State Game Warden in their county that will allow them to shoot hogs at night." He can find his Game Warden's name and contact info here. http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/laws_regs/lawstatemap.htmCharlie

Hehe...I'm out hunting in the brush once and I heard noise and shouting starting to get close. Then I ran into a young Vietnamese guy on the trail. Could still hear a lot of noise in the brush and grass in front of us. Asked him what he was doing. He and his brother sent their little sister running through the driving a hog towards them. Couldn't help but laugh at them.
