Last night I was invited by a friend to hunt with him in Collin County, he has numerous fields spread all around that he can hunt. First pig sighting was around 7:30 and it was a sounder of about 25 in the middle of a plowed field. It was a beating getting in position!! The mud didn't really have a bottom and was extremely sticky, I think each boot was 15 lbs. We angled for an area we thought they were heading and got there just before them. The alpha sow was at the front which was our right side so I told Chas to take her. I found the biggest hog as far left as I could and set sights on her. They were about 60-70 yards from us. Figured we would really confuse them and get'em at each end. 3...2...1...bang/KABOOM. The Kaboom is because he was shooting an unsuppressed 16" AR10 and WOW I forgot what that was like. Every time he fired I think I jumped and shot a round. LOL!!! The 2 went down and the rest looked like ants, running everywhere. At some point I heard the loud footsteps(because the mud was so deep) of a few come right by us, must have been 5-10 yards away. We ended up getting 12 out of this group before they made it to cover. There was no way to get them together for a picture because of the mud so you get the closest pig to our shooting position(with iPhone) and then we got to the truck and had a little piglet on the edge were the mud wasn't bad

Then we jumped in the Blazer and headed to check all the other fields. About an hour later we found this lone boar in a plowed corn field. He was quartering to us and when he was about 40 yards I took the shot, Dirt Nap!!

We continued to make the rounds and ended up back in the field we started at when we saw this guy. Again we took a beating walking in the mud but finally got to him. He was in the edge of the woods were some corn had been thrown a couple weeks prior. I took the shot and he folded like a lawn chair, then you heard all the air leave his lungs. No movement for a good 10 seconds and all the sudden he jumped up and started running through the woods. I'd get glimpses of him every now and then. He disappeared as he went down into a low area, I heard a lot of water and then he comes up the bank quartering away. As he gets to the top he's in an opening between trees. I sent another 68 to him and he fell down the other side, all was quiet. Took us a while to walk around to the side he was on be he laid at the bottom.

At this point it was 2:30 and we called it a night!! Ended up with 14 total so it was a good night

I feel your pain with that mud. Hunt Co has that same stuff.....its nuts! 15lbs boots are a regular thing out here right now.

Judging by your PRI mag it looks like youre youre shooting 6.8? If you dont mind me asking, what is your load?

You are correct on the 6.8 and I'm loading Branes 95gr TTSX, 29.5gn of AA2200, SSA Brass and CCI 41's. The best factory load for pigs is the Hornady 120gr SST and I might switch to that bullet once I shoot up all the ones I have. The Barnes are just expensive.

Right on. I bet those are screaming. I just started loading some of those 90gr bonded Gold Dot pull downs to see what they could do with AA2200, and they rip at around 2800fps across my chrono. I am tempted to try them on hogs.

I know everyone hates VMAX, but my go-to load is a 110 grain VMAX over 29.2gr of H322. Im not saying it's the best but it works very well in my suppressed rifle. Ive only shot 1 hog with that load so far, but it expired right there. Those 120SST's are on my list to try though when my VMAX run out.

Sounds crazy but spray your boots with Pam before you walk out. It helps them spray off with the hose alot easier when you get home.

Sweet beard brosef.

A real hunter never returns empty handed. Spending time in the wilderness temporarily satifies the soul, but leaves us longing for more.
