I plan on hunting a 40 acre food plot from a box stand that has shooting ranges up to 450 yards. I've noticed most game is seen on a corner that's anywhere from 125 yards to 350 yards away. My target game are WTD, axis, and hogs.

My 257WBY has a 26" barrel shooting WBY 100g Spire Points @ 3602 FPS and sighting in for Max Point Blank Range (MPBR) for a 6" kill zone. My ballistics tables indicate the MPBR is 353 yards, sighting in at 2.2" high at 100 yards.

I have three scopes (2 in hand) that I'm considering. This post is to solicit some suggestions from our forum hunters which scope would be a better fit for the 257Wby.

1. Schmidt and Bender 3-12x50 (currently mounted on a 340Wby that I haven't hunted with in years)

2. Zeiss Conquest DL 3-12x50 w/illuminated reticle dot (in hand)

3. Swarovski Z5 Optik 3.5-18x44 (about to buy it this morning)

I even thought of adding a suppressor to make it a 33 length hahaha.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

I'd go for the higher max power.

I have a .270 Wby Mag Mark IV Deluxe with 26" barrel.
I'll be hunting out to 300 yards, mostly between 175 and 250 though.

I'm probably going to go with a 3-9x scope with a bullet drop reticle and sight in at 200 yards. Center cross hair should be +/-1" between 50 and 225 yards so I can use whatever magnification I want in those ranges.

After 225 dial it up to 9x and I'll be -2 at 250 and -5.2 at 300. The scope I'm looking at has a -4.7 mark so finding the appropriate hold over at those ranges should be simple, at least that's my thought so far.

I consider the ballistics tables theoretical so I'll be shooting at those ranges to verify zero and holdover at the different ranges at least in 100 yard increments.

Edit: I could possibly go to a 4-12x model, but I need to look into it more.

The Swarovski Z5 Optik 3.5-18x44 has shipped so I have a few days to make my decision. I have Conetrol bases and rings in both 50mm and 1" rings ready.

I originally bought my 257wby for hunting my alafafa fields. 4-12 x50 z3. Swaro. It stay at 250 zero for the most part now.

Anything over 400 it's easy to pop the cap and dial.

I'm going through the same thing right now, but my wife's 257wby will be mainly use for 0-200 yards. For hers I'm considering the Leupold 3-12x40 in a high gloss finish. The gun is a MarkV Deluxe and I feel that putting a matte finish scope would do a dis service to the beauty of the stock.

BigPig - gotta agree the high gloss looks much better with the deluxe stock.

No 115vld...I wish it was hotter but I'll take sub at 300 all day.

I really loved the 80gr ttsx factory at 3825, but it's a beast to find in quantity

Have you tried the 87 grain factory rounds?

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

No Sir, I thought about it but I'd be scared to shoot a deer with a cup and core at those speeds. I'm sure I'd be fine but it just exceeds my comfort zone.
