This is really early for us. Earliest shed I had found was 1-17 and that was last year. Checked cameras Saturday and seen 2 bucks had shed. Saw another buck which I recognized because of a marking on his face. I knew it was a 10 point I know well. Searched his feeder and found this today. Just gotta find the other one. On the way home it dawned on me I may know this deer. Came home and dug out his sheds from last year. Deer: Shed: Sheds last year

That looks like a dirty shed. He may have pedicle damage and have scull damage
Isn't the best way to save face to keep the lower part shut?

I have found a few like this in the past and they grow back normal the next year. Seen this before as well and took it to a biologist. He said it is not that common and that likely the buck was about 2 -3 weeks away from natural drop and probably bumped it rather hard on something. He said something about the tentatcle as seen in this pic as part of natural calcified blood supply or whatnot. Cool find regardless!

Yea it is a bit early. The tree I found it under I can walk under without ducking. Like he was laying down. But a few early early sheds I have found have had this tentacle like thing.

What's the secret to finding sheds? Near bedding areas? Places where they may jump/dip fence lines? Near feeders?

A find a few near feeders. I find lots in bedding areas. Trasition areas from food plots to bedding or water. I find a few on fence lone crossings, but look about 5-10 feet away from fences cause when they jump, they usually fall off when they start walking a bit away from the fence. Water holes also.

How smooth is this shed with the skull piece attached? My dog drug up a head Friday that is missing an antler and the other broken off just above the brow tine. My son shot a buck middle November with his bow and lost him(hit high) and I think it's the same buck. The one missing is very smooth and flat and almost looks sawed off but seems way too smooth to have been cut. I'm wondering if he shed the other antler early. It has a piece of the skull missing just like that
