So im really trying to learn this varmint hunting thing. Just depending on luck hasnt been too successful. So what time of day is better, and why? Also does anyone ever bait? Guy i knew in gaines county baited with meat that was nearly spoiled like a ham or turkey in 55 gal drum and that worked like a magnet the times i went with him.

I like hunting both, but prefer night over day, just something about seeing eyes glow gets me. I think during the daylight the best time is 30 min to hour before dark, but I've called them in in the mornings and in the middle of the day. The biggest concerns is are there any yotes where you are calling, how are you hunting the wind and are they educated. Yotes are smart, and they will use the wind to fool ya. I like to set up with the wind in my face or a cross wind, and use the wind to pull them into an area for a good shot.

Get out and practice. Some people can call all day and never see one. I've also known guy that always seem to get a few every time they go out. Takes a while to be consistent. Hunting over bait is cheating to me. I would much rather have a coyote come "hunting" for me and the call, way more fun.

Waste of time getting in a pop up blind especially on coyotes. I would rather hunt in the daytime as your percentage of kills per called go up but night can be more productive under certain circumstances.

For me depending on what I'm hunting. For coyotes I prefer daytime starting when you can start seeing. Reason is I love to see them running in at a distance. Disadvantage is they can see and smell everything. Any movement you make or not completely camo they hang up or head off. For bobcats (cats) I prefer night time. They are sneaky during the day and no telling how many hunters never seen a cat come up. They will come up during the day of course, biggest cat I've taken was at 11:35 am. Red fox I prefer daytime and greys at night. With that said, I do not take greys now days unless I have a youth with me. I let them come up and go on waiting for a cat.

It depends. Different areas can have pressure put on the coyotes different ways. I have places I have to call in the day because the coyotes are very educated to lights. In general I prefer day hunting because it is easier for me to sneak in without being seen. To me, daytime calling educates coyotes less. I have have no proof of that, just the way I feel about it. Which is not to say I don't like night hunting, I do. I have a rack for the back of my truck and go night calling several times a year. They can get educated to it pretty quick though.
