I have been watching a few videos and I have to say I am interested. Has anyone jumped in? What did you think?

I was checking some out the other day too. I was just looking at the ones at walmart and almost bought one. Which ones are you looking at?

I did, got a this from Pyramid Air, you definitely get what you pay for. I started with a Nitro Piston Crossman (Jim Shockey) model. It was nice but this Beeman's trigger is AWESOME and its VERY accurate out to 50 yards. Great turtle killer.

I really want one of the pre-charged pneumatic rifles in either .22 or 25 caliber. Something like the cometa lynz v10. Up to 50 shots in a single charge and a average of 850fps with a 21 grain pellet. 1k is a lot for a air rifle but they are sure bad [censored].

Yep, their 350 magnum is first rate. Look at Pyramid Air. I bought their combo which they mounted the scope and sighted it in. They are First Class service company and have a huge inventory.

My Nitro Piston was a .22 cal, my Beeman is .177. No real reasoning. If you want to shoot small game, the .22 hits harder.

Don't fall for the "steel" raptor type pellets going 2000fps, not good on a fine air rifle's lands. Also buy a "sampler" box of pellets and read the reviews. They are like .22 rimfire rifles, usually liking a couple brands, weights, better than others.

I'm guessing you are talking about big bore air rifles for large game. A friend was talking about them recently and he plans to get one. They can be pricey at around $1200 for a good one and price goes up from there. I think New York just started allowing them for deer hunting.

I am working on an indoor airgun range here, getting a few enthusiasts organized to see if the club will put the bucks together for it.

The city has a building that is used for gem and mineral shows, gun shows etc.. It may be that we can use that from time to time.

I would gladly invest in a quality air match rifle if there was a good place to shoot it.

Mean-while, I have a lot of fun with a Gamo .177 air rifle that I fixed up with a Williams Guide rear sight.

I have a Gamo Big Cat and while its no RWS or a high-end air gun, its certainly no toy. I like shoot coins with it because it will mangle some pennies

I have fairly expensive RWS and Beeman airrifles. Both are absolute tack drivers, and a blast to shoot.

Look into the AirForce or the Benjamin Marauder I thank Airgun depot care both and either one in 25 cal will take out a hog

I wouldn't call my air rifle high end, but it's a nice one. I shoot a .25 cal chinese breakbarrel called an XS28M, came from a shop in Iowa tuned by a man named Mike Melick. It is very accurate, and for an air rifle, very very powerful. It will punch right through the armor of an armadillo, and kill it with a shot through the body.

Those PCP guns like the Marauder are a lot more powerful and accurate than mine.

They are not "just pellet guns". They are rifles, and you have to treat them with the same respect as the powder burning variety.

I have one, and it's great. I tried a Gamo and ended up giving it away. Doesn't compare to the RWS.

Yep, you get what you pay for on these.

I started with the Crossman Nitro piston from Academy. Like the Gammo a great starter rifle, get one, then you can see if you like shooting air rifles. If the bug bites, then scratch it with a higher dollar one.

I have a couple of the gamo hunter models and they are ok. The pneumatic ones look really cool and quiet. My gamo is loud enough that my .22 shooting subs suppressed is quieter than it is.

Mines a 22cal Diana RWS 48 with the TO6 trigger, about 900 fps and cuts 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards with the proper pellet. It likes heavier pellets but is surprisingly accurate with the 16g Polymags and the 15g Diablo's.

I have had a Beeman R9 20 cal for about 10 years or more..
It is awesome.

I have a cheap Gamo rifle that I was utterly disgusted with for several years - until I removed the factory rear sight, and drilled and tapped the rear sight block for a Williams Guide rear sight. - Suddenly, it turned out that the thing was a tack-driver!



The original rear sight was a plastic POS that would not hold a zero. - Once I even hot-melt glued the thing and it still managed to drift off somehow. I knew it was bad - but I was not prepared for the dramatic difference a quality rear sight made on that rifle.

I bought the Gamo because of an experience I had thirty years ago with a Gamo under-lever pistol that I owned for several years. The pistol was not overly powerful of course, but it had a great trigger and was very accurate. At that time, I had lake-front property and used the Gamo pistol to shoot dragonflies out of the air. Like shooting rats, the trick is to wait for them to pause, then shoot quickly before they decide to move again.

I have owned dozens of air guns, and fired at least a hundred-thousand pellets, probably many more than that. I know that a tin of 500 never lasted me for long.

The only quality air rifle that I have owned was a Beeman R-1, select for accuracy. On this gun I mounted a Williams peep sight at the rear of the receiver dovetail. The sight had to be modified a bit to get it low enough. For the front sight, I drilled and tapped a hole in order to mount the ramp and front sight from a Winchester model 70 Sporter Magnum. The peep and bead at opposite ends of the rifle made that rifle close to ideal in the field. It was powerful enough, and outstandingly accurate.

My next air rifle will be an under-lever, probably a Weihrauch HW77.

I'd like to have a match grade air-rifle, but will hold off on that until/unless I can promote a proper indoor range in my town.

If you go PCP don't forget the cost of a good CF tank ( $700 ). That's the only thing that's held me back, as I'd very much like a quality PCP rifle. This is a picture of my RWS 52, my Weihrauch 30S and my Beeman P1. My RWS 460 isn't in this picture.

The .177 cal 580 fps $2,000+ Anschutz isn't that impressive to me. You can get a Marauder in every caliber for that money and adjust the .177 to shoot just as soft. And the Marauder may not be a 10 meter competition rifle, but it's accurate enough to be competitive in field target if you have if dialed in with a scope that tracks well. Nothing against Anschutz, they make fine rifles... but I don't see the point of this one...
