What would you do?

I had some family come in from Iowa to go pig hunting. They wanted to do a stand hunt as well as hunt with dogs.

I got a guide, who will remain unnamed, to do the stand hunt. They put 6 of us, 2 to a stand, in 3 stands that couldn't have been more than 300-400 yards apart. They told us the feeders for each stand had motion lights and then gave us a viridian green flashlight for our guns.

The stand I got dropped off at supposedly had 50 lbs of corn put out the day before. I walked over to the feeder in the daylight and saw two pig tracks and tons of deer tracks. There was no other pig sign other than that. I know pigs travel, but figured we would have more sign.

Then about 9:30 I texted the guides courier to and from the stands to make sure there was a motion light and he said there should be. Also, when the feeder went off at 4 pm it only spun for about a quarter second. I decided to get out of stand and make sure the feeder had a motion light on it and nothing lit up. I texted the guide that the motion light didn't work and he never responded.

Finally at 11 pm we decided we had enough. We texted to get picked up. When the courier picked us up, I told him about the feeder only spinning a quarter second and that there wasn't a motion light. The other two groups of guys didn't have motion lights like they were supposed to either. The courier just said "huh" and took us back to the lodge where our trucks were.

We gave this guy $900 to basically sit in a stand with very little sign with equipment that was either not present or didn't work properly other than the flash light for our scopes and got a "huh" as the response when we told him about it. These guys drove all the way from Iowa for that to be their stand hunt and I was embarrassed.

Luckily, the next day, a buddy with dogs in Jacksboro got us on the hogs for free.

Yep. $900. They let me know a week before they were coming down and I was scrambling to get something put together for them. There wasn't a whole lot of guides who had openings and this one is one I see on here a lot and is supposedly reputable.

At least the dog hunt worked out with my buddy.

Buyer beware...that's why it's called Hunting, not shooting.

$900 for a pig hunt for one night and 6 people is astronomical.

Yeah, I only charge $50 a person to not see hogs. roflmao

That sucks that there are people out there that set up hunts like that.

That has nothing to do with it. Not when you get somewhere where they either don't maintain their equipment, or they lie about it. I'd be saying the same if everything had been done right, just no pigs. But $900 is a joke unless they got a nights stay in a first class lodge, and breakfast lunch and dinner by a good chef.

Unless the guide is communicating now, and trying to remedy the situation, I wouldn't have any issue putting his name out there.

The guide should fix it unless it was all communicated prior to hunt. I can't see why it was 2 to a blind either if each person was paying. There would be a slim to no chance of getting multiple hogs from a single stand in one night.

Sure its called hunting but when you're lied to or equipment isn't supplied as promised then you got screwed.

Surprised you didn't get an offer to come back for free - well, not totally surprised but for that much I would have hoped that would be the case. Sorry to hear about the bad experience. Pretty sure I know exactly who you hunted with.

I would see if he can offer you a hunt to make up.

Did he offer to discount the price?

You can always give hin a 1099 for his services and at least he would have to pay taxes on that part
