Ok so I listed it on here for trade but I got to thinking about just doing a few things to it. It's a reg barrel and nothing has been done to it. What would yall recommend. Thinking of changing the stock, maybe trigger. Barrel or bolt. I know some hate savage but I do love how this gun shoots. Any info would be great. What would yall do. Suggestion on stocks, or anything else that would be fun to do. Would it be worth doing a full build or keeping it simple. Look forward to hearing from the experts.

It could be worth it. Depends on what you want out of it. I have a Savage action with a Lilja barrel and a laminated Boyd's stock. Shoots as well as most customs with a lot less money invested.

Just something a tad different. It shoots great just want to make it better. Guess I need to figure out exactly what stock fits it. Didn't realize there were so many variations. Feel like a rookie all over again.

I recommend taking a look at Boyds stocks. Just put a featherweight thumbhole on my model 11 22-250. Very happy with it. Pretty inexpensive upgrade. Finish and fitment was better than expected.

I love all my savages and stevens guns so what if they cost less then every thing out there they are really accurate guns I have an axis i just bought i was going to get the barrel bedded and some bolt work but after the trigger job it does not need it a good customer trigger with a 2 1/4 lb pull thing just drilled tim in there at 100/200 yards dont worry if other people like it you cant beat them for the price with the gun and trigger it is still cheaper then the other 243 on the market and shoots better then the more expenses ones I am seriously thinking of getting an other one that is how much l like this one in a 7mm.08 but have not decided yet that one above looks really nice Ilike the stock I had thought about buying one that already had metal pillars in the stock but i backed out it was going to be more then i paid for the gun I am just keeping it the way it is but a good I dont think you need to get a new trigger if you have the accutrigger if you do then do the bolt you will be shocked how much of a difference it makes but again that is just my option i have 3 saves and 2 stevens and i love every one my stevens 30-06 is just a dream to shoot only issue is the recoil hurt my back so much i dont shoot it i thought about having it ported in stead of buying a new 7mm.08 even though having an other gun would be nice if i dontbuy an axis it will be a savage 110 or the weatherby vanguard 2 or the moss burg 100art i shot one that belonged to a guy that the rang in 7mm.08 on ft hood and it was a very very comfortable gun just to hold and i liked the way it shot for a 300$ gun

I really like my Savages and Stevens. You can go from mild to wild. Here are 3 of mine, 2 in 7mm08 and 1 in 300 win mag.

I think Dub32 had a good idea, unless you're wanting a more tactical look.

I have a modified savage too and like it. I'm fairly middle of the road on savages, they have their pluses and minuses.

If you're interested in a caliber change, then I'd suggest looking at a Shilen barrel. They offer straight factory replacements already chambered in many of the popular calibers for an affordable price. I hear some guys who have a good clamp, torque wrench and a set of go,no-go gauges routinely change their own barrels. I had my gunsmith do it and I had to force him to take $40 from me for doing it. Apparently it's real easy. My savage with a 308 Shilen barrel can indeed shoot half moa at 300yds and I'm still just startin reloading. Does almost as well with factory stuff. Aside from a hs precison stock, other mods are for looks and do nothing for accuracy. Still use the factory accutrigger after several thousands of shots.

Dang guys thanks for all the info. I do have access to a barrel vise and all that good stuff. Would it seem to make since that if I was gonna do stock upgrades to go to a bull barrel. How exactly do you switch calibers? Sorry at work having to keep it short. Will post more later. Thanks again for all the info.

Order a barrel in a caliber that uses the same size bolt face as the .270 case. Then you'll need a set of go/no go gauges. There's videos that explain how to do it.

How much sense it makes to switch to a bull barrel or not purely comes down to much much u plan on shooting it, especially during single sessions. The obvious draw back to bull barrels is weight. The greatest advantage is that u can shoot a lot in a single sitting without worrying about overheating your barrel to the point of ruining it. It has nothing to do with accuracy; a good barrel is a good barrel and a bad one is bad. More barrel material means it takes more heat input, i.e. more/quicker shots, to heat up that much more material. There's also the drawback of it takes longer to cool but overall you gain in being able to shoot a bunch in one day.

if you like the way it shoots, why change the barrel, go for a nice stock, do a bedding job, if you don't like the trigger, that can be changed, put money into rings & optics, you are good to go. my .02

Sounds good. Thanks for all the good info. Honestly this gun shoots amazing. No accutrigger. Just an older savage 110. Think I'll just go change the stock for now. Definitely upgrade the optics. It has savage rings that seem to be pretty good but will more than likely upgrade them too. I'll keep yall posted on how it turns out.

By the way, those are some amazing guns pictured above.
