That's a heavy gun if you plan on doing much walking or stalking, IMO. Bull barrels are nice for the bench but once loaded down with scope, bipod, etc it gets heavy. The coyote setups are lighter and still accurate enough to reach out 200 yds. Spend the money on the optics and a suppressor, I haven't shot or put together any ar that wouldn't hit decent at 200 yards with the right ammo. But that's just my opinion. Plus the one I shot had a junk trigger so that would be changed plus the stock I would want to swap out. Thats an extra $300+ right there.

I have the RRA ATH Carbine with the 18" barrel, adjustable stock, and the RRA two stage trigger, which is anything but junk. There's a reason they'll guarantee .75". Mine does that with ease.

You have to provide more info on what the intended purpose of the rifle is. Are you hunting, run and gun competitions, or trying to make one ragged hole from the bench? Different parts for different disciplines. Just looking to kill anything I point at out to 200 yards, yotes, coons, steel plates, whatever. I just want it to fire every time i pull the trigger. A $500 S&W M&P 15 Sport meets those requirements.

A $500 S&W M&P 15 Sport meets those requirements. My thought exactly. Switching out a handguard or grip would mostly be for looks, or to make it cool. If your only requirement really is reliability, then this is what I would do. But the truth is, you would be hard pressed to find any factory rifle that wouldn't go bang every time you pull the trigger. There's nothing in the world wrong with buying something because it's cool, or looks good. So even if you bought the m&p and switched out the pistol grip and handguard. You can stick the factory ones in the safe, and if you ever sell it, you can put them back on to sell, then sell the grio and handguard seperatly.

I should have corrected this last night, it was a DPMS and maybe just his was a pos.

Or you may find out you love them and you can upgrade that gun to no end.
