I've tried to find good posts concerning getting a trust done but it's not really addressing my questions. I live in an area that it's like a 100 miles to see anyone about setting up a trust and actually touching a suppressor. So the question is, is an online submission good? Are there one's that would be better then others? There is one place that sells suppressors and their online application is thru a 199Trust.com sight for $79.99. The other would be thru SilencerCo for $129.99 and that is the brand I think I want, a Specwar 762. Would it make any difference which one I use for a family trust. Also any input on the Specwar suppressor? I've been on the fence about getting this but if things get any crappier I want to get it done now so it would be grandfathered in when great chief crapsalot screws us anymore.

Trusts are form documents. They just fill in the blanks with your info. Should all be the same. Bluesman or whatever will be along shortly to use the phrase shoe clerk or something to that effect.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I used Sean Cody - He's a gun trust lawyer out of Houston. It cost more, but he did everything over the phone, and sent me the finished trust in a pdf file. I was very happy with his services, and he answers every question you may have about a NFA Gun Trust. He runs an add on Texas Gun Talk forum.

Check on 68 forums. There is a spot that just talks about NFA trusts, silencers. I went with a specwar.

I used 199 trusts I think. They had a special and I had the trust in my email in about 24 hours, only cost me 99$. Have used it more than 10 times with zero issues. No point in paying more for the exact same thing. Just my .02.

I used 199trusts also, and have had no difficulties. The specwar is superb. I have a 7.62 and a 5.56 version.

Any trust will work whether it's from a lawyer, a website, a computer program, or one you write yourself. The difference comes when you have questions or want to change something or possibly even have to defend it in court. On those websites, it states that lawyer consultation is not included. Let's say I have a question about removing someone from a trust, I can just call up my lawyer and get an answer right away. I don't have to ask on a forum and get 10 different answers from a lawyer's shoebox. As for the suppressor, the Specwar has been out for a while now. It's good but there are newer and possibly better ones available. If it has to be Silencerco, I'd look at the Omega. I have a Harvester which works great and came out before the Omega. If you want one that is great for accuracy, look at the Thunder Beast Ultra-9.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I've used the same template twice. Fill in the blanks, get it notorized, and submit to the dealer. It's easy.

Ok, newbie question. Is a trust required to buy a suppressor? Does it just make buying one an easier process?
Talk to me THF.

I don't have any NFA items or a trust yet but what I understand is, if I do the trust then purchase a NFA item now and it is processed before the deadline I'm gtg without pics and prints for 24 months, after that pics and prints must be submitted as well as anyone on the the trust with me. What seems to me is you can buy all you want now [ if you can afford it ] but after that happens its a whole different story. Hopefully all this BS will be appealed.

Some people prefer to keep items on seperate trusts. Feel like if they use an NFA item for self defense or something, that a lawsuit might only cause loss of single items if the trust only contains single items. Only excuse Ive heard.

I went with the 199trust and the dealer walked me thru. It's a done deal and a Specwar762 is in the safe now with my name waiting on the final paperwork and stamp. So easy, don't know why I waited.

CLEO signature will no longer be required 180 days after the new rules are published in the Federal Register, which is expected by summer of this year. So for all intents and purposes, CLEO signature is still required for individual transfers for pretty much the next year, unless these new rules are published earlier than this summer.

41F has already gone into effect. A trust if the WTG but now you submit a passport sized photo and 2 sets of fingerprints along with your trust. The trust is benefical since you can add co-trustees that can shoot it in the absence of your presence(wife, adult child or friend). Just like any other trust it has beneficiaries(if you die it goes to someone YOU designate), instead of the ATF knocking on your widows door to remove it and destroy it.

With that said, a trust is much easier and convenient....... or hopefully the HPA will pass and we wont have to worry about this crap any longer.

I was told that you still had to do the transfer via a tax stamp and that the item was essentially in limbo until that was complete.

Only if you designate it in a will and the form 5 (tax free form you speak of if filled out). Then you go through exact same process and wait months for it to process. Assuming the person you leave it to can legally possess it. In the meantime the "executer" has possession of it and no one can use it. If no one can have it or wants it then yes, the ATF will come take it and destroy it.
