Personally I feel like the energy drops off too fast past 200-if I had one I'd limit it to under 200 yards. A soft point or ballistic tip in the 125gr range is probably your best bet on deer.

Check out AAC's presentation. http://300aacblackout.com/resources/300-BLK.pdf Considering "20 inches of penetration at 300 yards (275meters)from 9inch barrel" with a Barnes TTSX 110gr, you should be good to go up to 300yds... I personally use Hornady and Barnes.

I use 110gr V-max on deer with GREAT results. I have banged steel at 300 yards with my 9" AAC suppressed, I feel most comfortable inside 200 yards with it.
Thanks!! Matt

Like other folks have mentioned, Barnes TAC-TX bullets if you load your own. If not, Barnes sells it loaded in their VOR-TX ammo. It's all I'll use on deer out of my 16" 300blk. I'd feel great at 300 yards with that combination.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Under 200 w Barnes 110 tactx ^^This^^. That's what I shoot in my 300. Haven't used it on deer yet though, it's set up with NV as my go-to pig gun and smacks the hell out of pigs.

I have interest in this caliber for a suppressed, sub-sonic hunting platform - particularly with a thermal at night.
What is killing range for sub-sonic rounds for (a) Hogs, and (b) deer-sized exotics? (and possibly coyotes)
I have an application for such a platform, with shots would be probably 50-150yards max.
My concern has been power/penetration for quick humane kills.

That's always been my biggest concern with subsonic's, so still haven't taken that path yet. I have 0 experience personally hunting with subs.

Chad should be along shortly. He has a lot of extensive knowledge on the subject. But I've heard him say multiple times that he doesn't hunt with subsonics.

To determine your max range, find out the minimum velocity for reliable expansion on the particular bullet you are using. Then run the numbers in a ballistic program to see what range the velocity drops to that point. Typically, it's much further than most people are willing to shoot at game, but that may not be the case with this one.

Barnes tac-tx minimum expansion velocity is 1350 fps.

100 yds max shot for me with subsonic and a can, 200 with super. It drops a lot, but it's got punch at short range.

While I have no real world experience with the 300 Blackout, I just don't understand why people think the 30-30 is undergunned but think the 300 is the hot new ticket.

So im guessing it's more like 425 yards effective range.

Correct. I missed the 300 yards part. It's closer to 400. Thanks.

Correct. I missed the 300 yards part. It's closer to 400. Thanks. I probably didn't phrase it the best way the first time. I'm getting 2440 fps at the muzzle with a 110 TAC-TX and 20 grains of H110, which translates to just over 1600 fps at 300 yards. That's from a 16" barrel.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

While I have no real world experience with the 300 Blackout, I just don't understand why people think the 30-30 is undergunned but think the 300 is the hot new ticket. It's because the .300 Blackout is "Tactical" - and this magically makes it more powerful and useful, somehow.

Have killed coyotes, pigs and multiple deer in the last 2 years with 110 Barnes. I killed a coyote DRT at 280. I won't shoot at deer or pigs past 200 though. I will say it groups great at 300 yards but I do worry about energy at that range. It is my go to lease gun as most shots are under 150. My other lease with longer shots I grab a bigger gun.
