I guess someone makes a .30-30 conversion or build parts for an AR platform then.
Pass the gravy.

I've had good luck with 125 SST out to 100. That's as close as they've got! Go about 20-30 yards then die.

I've been hunting with the 300 blk out for the last 3 years now. I've killed a lot of critters with it. I prefer the 125 grain bullets. The 125's are going fast enough for perfect mushroom shaped expansion, and provide deep penetration. I am getting all pass throughs on anything I am shooting with good size exit wounds. I shot a crow at 245 yards on Sunday morning at a lazered 245 yards with 1.4 mils of elevation, and about .2-.3 wind hold. I'll shoot anything from 300-400 yards and under, and it will work just fine with the 125's. I don't feel any disadvantage hunting with it. If I need a longer shot than 300 yards, I'll pull out my big guns. I killed several pigs with the 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip from the blk out when it first came out. This bullet would go straight through the pigs with about a dime size or smaller exit wound. This is telling me that the bullet is not expanding much, and doing an ice pick wound channel. The pigs went down after running a little ways. But, after shooting the 125's with better expansion, critters are going down much sooner and showing much more damage. To determine your max range, find out the minimum velocity for reliable expansion on the particular bullet you are using. Then run the numbers in a ballistic program to see what range the velocity drops to that point. Typically, it's much further than most people are willing to shoot at game, but that may not be the case with this one. My handloads are moving at 1600+ fps at 300 yards. Barnes tac-tx minimum expansion velocity is 1350 fps. Yes, look at the velocities and see if your bullet will even expand. As velocity decreases, so does expansion. I've heard many times, subsonics are for fun. Supersonics are for hunting. ^^ Good idea!! If you hunt with the subs, I would highly recommend an expanding subsonic bullet. I can load the 200 grain expanding subsonic bullet in the blk out now. It would be ideal the ideal bullet for hunting with subs. But you do have a lot less energy than the full power stuff. And yes, animals do still run after being shot with subs. So, there is no "quiet" advantage from the supers vs. the subs. Now, go to the 110 Barnes. I know that these bullets have trouble expanding at around 2000-2200 fps. They will fully expand (generally) at 2300-2400+ speeds. I have seen customers recover their bullet from the ground, a tree, and other items after a shot. Sometimes the expansion is minimal. The 110 Barnes has a much larger plastic tip with a much larger hollow point to help initiate this expansion. This bullet is a great round for penetration, but sometimes you will not get the expansion, especially at the slower speeds, which would be your longer ranges. But, good shot placement will take care of the lack of expansion, generally. My 110 Barnes runs about 2450 in my 16" bolt gun. Look at the drop chart below. You fall below the 2000 fps mark at about 150 yards. Around this mark, you should have minimal expansion, but still keep the deep penetration. The 110 Barnes is a great bullet, but I do like the results I am getting better with the lead bullets. They will expand a little easier than the solids will, and at a lower speed. 110 Barnes in 300 blk out Range Velocity Energy Elev Wind (yards) (ft/sec) (ft-lbs) (inches) (inches) 0 2450 1466 --- --- 25 2376.4 1379.3 -0.71 0.09 50 2304.3 1296.8 -0.06 0.34 75 2233.5 1218.4 0.19 0.78 100 2163.5 1143.2 0 1.4 125 2094.7 1071.7 -0.66 2.21 150 2027.2 1003.7 -1.81 3.24 175 1960.9 939.2 -3.49 4.47 200 1896.1 878.1 -5.73 5.93 225 1832.7 820.4 -8.58 7.63 250 1770.8 765.9 -12.08 9.57 275 1710.5 714.6 -16.27 11.77 300 1651.7 666.3 -21.2 14.24 325 1594.6 621 -26.93 16.99 350 1539.2 578.6 -33.52 20.04 375 1485.8 539.1 -41.02 23.38 400 1434.4 502.5 -49.51 27.04 425 1385.2 468.7 -59.05 31.02 450 1338.6 437.6 -69.73 35.33 475 1294.5 409.3 -81.62 39.98 500 1253 383.5 -94.81 44.96

There's a big difference in minimum expansion velocity between the two.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

110 Black Tipped TAC-TX. The black tipped open up at about 200 fps slower.

I literally just ordered a 10.5in 300blk upper about an hour before seeing this. 110 Black Tipped TAC-TX. The black tipped open up at about 200 fps slower. Interesting. I was planning on using this as my go to ammo! Good to know! Do you primarily use the SST's or Sierra's? Do you mainly go for head/neck shots? How are the wound channels? Current, based on just what I have read, no actual experience with the round, I feel like I would pass on a shot over 100-150yrds given how dramatically the round drops after that distance. Mainly because I just don't know my DOPE with it.

The 110 Barnes is a great bullet out of the blk out. But in an SBR, you won't get the speed needed for it to open up reliably. So essentially, you will have an expensive FMJ round with deep penetration. The 110 Barnes runs about 2370 fps in a 16" AR suppressed. Go to a 10.5" barrel, and you should be running about 2200-2230 fps at the muzzle. By the time the bullet gets to your target 100 yards away, the round will be going less than 2000 fps, and will have trouble opening up. Because of this, I'd recommend going to a 110 grain V-max for the SBR rifles. The 110 V-max have a thinner jacket and will open up much easier. The 110 V-max would make a good SBR round.
I prefer the 125 grain bullets, Sierra SP. The 125's are going fast enough for perfect mushroom shaped expansion, and provide deep penetration. I am getting all pass throughs on anything I am shooting with good size exit wounds.

I'll try the 125's vs the V-max on hogs.

^^^ That's a good plan! Thanks! Also, I didn't finish my comment on the 125's. I shoot and prefer any of the 125 grain bullets- 125 Sierra SP, 125 SST or 125 BT.

The barnes 110gr Tac-Tx (the black tip round designed for 300blk) is designed to expand down to 1300fps, and it's one of the few rounds light enough to get muzzle velocities of over 2300fps (depending on barrel length).

Lead bullets with thin copper jackets have trouble expanding below about 1500-1600 fps. A solid copper bullet will not expand at 1300 fps. There's not enough force to open up the cavity. As velocity is decreased, so does expansion. So the slower you push a bullet, the less it expands. I would be surprised if these 100 Barnes expand at all below about 1500 fps.

Haven't looked at the Barnes bullets in a while but photos in gun rags it looked like if the plastic tip got dislodged from the bullet they considered it expansion, I consider expansion when the bullet deforms to at least 1.5 times original diameter preferably 2X or more.
No experience with the Blackout but just an observation.
