Whats the big deal , to many people here really over think and down other for no reason .
Many many of time i have hauled mule deer and elk back in st strange ways , you have to do what you need to . Just because it's not to your high up standers doesn't mean it wrong !

I wouldn't call him a moron, but, for me 62F is way too warm to carry a deer any distance.
Skin & quarter and put the meat in an ice chest with ice, then strap the ice chest to the receiver rack.

Back when I was hunting in upstate New York (early to Late 80's) it was required that you keep all harvested deer outside of your vehicle. I even drove my white Izuzu Trooper through downtown NY City headed out to Long Island with two deer on the roof without anyone complaining.

When I was growing up this was very acceptable. And often had neighbors hang their deer or bear in a tree in their yard for all to see for days. Granted it was both to show off their success but also good practice to age the meat as the temps were always below 40 that time of year.

Sad to see that an incident like this is headline news. What have we become.

I have driven with a few on the roof but it was only 3 miles to the locker. Hitch rack makes that job much easier. Someone should buy this guy one. $59 at Academy. If I don't quarter I still wrap in a tarp as I don't like dirt and dust all over it.

Probably a bit to far to transport in this manner, but it does look like he field gutted the deer and honestly, at his age I bet this just started out as a way to get the deer home and processed and probably took a little more entertaining turn as he got attention for it. Not something I would do, but no big deal IMO.

Saw a suburban over the Christmas holidays with a field dressed dow ratchet strapped to the roof rack.

Carried a red hind an hour and forty five minutes back to camp one cold morning on my hitch rack. Of course in the hill country nobody cares.

Wow. He got it done and I'm guessing he got more than a few funny looks.

I'll bet he got more thumbs up.

By the way, when I was a kid back in the 60's, my dad and three friends used to hunt in Colorado every year, and they would drive all the way back to central Texas with the deer strapped to the hoods of their pickup and jeep. The deer were so big compared to the little deer I had seen that I thought they had shot cows.

At 70, he probably fashioned the winch so he wouldn't have to struggle lifting it onto a rack. Just looped around the leg and winched up. Lifting and dragging deer is hard on old fellas.
