Hey guys... ok.. cannot tell. Does not look like an arrow damage or gun shot. Something is sticking out too... no idea what.

Anyone have a guess?

Blew it way up, and it looks like a broken off arrow shaft.

Looks like an arrow when blown up.

Saw a young buck sunday morning with an injury in the same spot, although it just looked like a patch of fur torn off. He was running some does HARD! Didn't seem to bother him a bit, but did wonder what it was.

While it does look like an arrow shaft, that's an awfully big hole for an arrow

I believe it's a gunshot with bone sticking out of the wound. Nothing else would do that much damage.

Hell boys it could have been just about anything, no way to know for sure unless you kill him.

I wonder what the odds are of that deer living and that wound not getting infected? As big as that wound is, an infection will ruin a lot of meat if that deer doesn't die first.

Crazy....not getting email notifications on my topics.

Anyway, yea.. all I could think was, "man.. what a waste of backstrap!" .. heh

Sure he will feed the eco system if not another hunter.

I saw an emaciated doe like that when I still lived in Kansas. Broad head lodged in-between 2 ribs high on the back. The big hole was from the tissue going necrotic. Sucks to see an animal with a bad hit even if it is a spike. If that pic is from late November, he's most likely dead now.

Looks like the wound was much bigger at some point and is healing. I suspect this deer might make it.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?
