Wanting to get a new barrel fluted, anyone have suggestions or recommendation?

Derrick @ Horizon (he posts here) does the best fluting I've seen...he has some different styles that are killer looking.

I've not had a fluted barrel yet. It seems like an awfully good idea to me.
Kind regards, charlesb

Another system to lighten a barrel while retaining the stiffness of a heavy barrel is the "triangular barrel" that Remington offers on a few of its models.
You get three fairly wide flats, and three small sections of the original barrel radius at the points of the triangle, if I understand correctly.
I hear stories about the muzzle break cuts in these barrels taking loud to whole a new level - but I have not heard much of anything, pro or con about the effectiveness of the triangular shape as far as shooting performance goes.
Has anyone here some experience with these guns?
Kind regards, charlesb

I have one of the special runs of Triangle barrel VTR by Remington that had the longer 24 inch barrel and no muzzle break. It's a 22-250 and it shoots very well. I found out totally by accident that it dropped into a Reminton 700 Varmint wood stock that a friend had that had been bedded. We were surprised that it fit so we went ahead took it to the range and first 3 shots were 1/4 inch and he never got his stock back. Here it is the bottom one of course ..... Both of these are 22-250's

Looking at straight fluting, not really into the crazy stuff. kampfield has really competitive pricing but I'm waiting to hear back from Derrick

D-stroud, that's a nice VTR, I think Remington screwed the pooch by not offering un-ported VTR's. I might have gotten one of them. Looks killer in the wood stock

DieselGeek started his longer range shooting posts on here with a Remington VTR in 308. Like one FiremanJG has the rifle has worn other tubes in different calibers.
The only fluted barrel I own is the one Scott built and like the straight flutes with rounded flutes no sharp edges.

I have been wondering what Horizon charges to flute a barrel as well. Any rough estimates?

Looks killer in the wood stock They offered a very few special runs with no porting. I had a 24" 223. It shot lights out. I only sold it because I found out it had a 1:12 twist once there was no way in heck it would stabilize a 75gr bullet. Anything smaller though and it was excellent.

I have been wondering what Horizon charges to flute a barrel as well. Any rough estimates? It depends on what fluting you want. Derrick is good about getting back with you but I know that he is at DSC right now. g

That's good information about the triangle fluting. Now I'm thinking about tapered triangle fluting.
Start with a barrel that is tapered more than usual - then apply the triangle fluting to that. - It might be way to come up with lightweight but rigid barrels for mountain rifles, walking varminters, etc..
- Or maybe not. It sure would be something interesting to try.
