I inherited a Marlin 30-30 that was my Great Grandpas rifle. It has an octagon barrel and a 4 digit serial number, it was made in 1893. I hope to be able to harvest a deer with it every year in his honor. Last year I harvested a doe with his rifle. This year I harvested a little 4 point buck. He is probably no trophy to every one else, but it means the world to me to be able to shoot him with my Great Grandpas rifle. Here is a pic of my Great Grandpa with the rifle that was handed down to me. My Great Grandpa is standing up on the drivers side with his hand on his buck. Here is a pic of the 4 point I harvested with the old 30-30.

That gun looks remarkable for a 100 year old gun. What a great tradition you have.

A treasure. Don't let it get out of the family.

Very cool.
My dad just passed down his first deer rifel to me this summer. After some research it turns out to be a Remington US OF 1917 (M1) I checked the serial number and it was made in 1918.
Turns out my Grandad and his friend specially ordered them, customized to their specifications, (both in .30-06) for a whaping $9.00 in 1940.
Later my dad bought Grandad's friends gun from him. My brother has Grandad's and they both shoot like new ones. I have Grandad's Remington 742 Woodsmastr 30.06 that still shoots like new.
They may not be worth much to any one else but I would not traded eather one for a truck load of AK's, AR's, or any other "modern sporting rifles"
Hold on to that gun it is golden.

Very nice! I have a Winchester M92 in .25-20 that my great grandfather bought around 1905-1907. It has been passed down through our family, and when my dad was a teenager he actually killed a deer with it.
You can't put a price tag on heirlooms like these old guns.

That is great. The first Buck my son shot alone was with a model 92 25-20.
