I would like to say thanks to everyone for the kind words and interest.
God willing, I will post another thread next year with another deer harvested with my Great Grandpas rifle.

Awesome story, and a nice deer. My dad brought back a German 8mm Mauser from WWII and it was his hunting rifle for 30 years. When he died my oldest sister inherited it, and now 4 generations of our family have killed deer with it. In fact, two members of the family have used it to kill two deer with one shot. Since I had such fond memories of that Mauser, a few years ago, I bought one that looks almost exactly like it and carried it on a few hunts, but never shot a deer with it, but last year, I took my son on his first deer hunt, and he shot a deer with it, so hopefully we're starting a new tradition.
