That's a hell of a buck and a wonderful way to end a hunting career. I will keep you and your family in my prayers as well, thanks for sharing.

Congrats Dave on another beautiful monster buck! I'm very fortunate to have shared a hunting camp with you and listening to all the stories. Stay strong!

Here is the day we left the Barron Grounds. He killed a monster on that trip too

Troy and Tye,
Thanks for the kind words. Many of my most memorable hunts were with you guys, especially with your dad. And yes, that "fun hunt" for caribou with Moise Rabesca in the NWT was one of the best. When we arrived at Humpy Lake, I wondered aloud about the electric fence they'd erected around the camp. The gate was the only spot not electrified, and every night we could hear that grizzly trying to break in. One night, that bear shredded my boat cushion, which I had absent-mindedly left in our boat. If I recall, 3 out of 15 caribou made book, and one of Troy's came within an eyelash of doing so. Calvin and I both took book animals, but nothing compared with the one Max shot. I measured his bull (after 60 days drying) at least twice and was sure it would score #2 all-time, but the official B&C scorer measured it more conservatively--it end up coming in at #14 all-time, which is quite a trophy in its own right. And it was a hoot to eat the Dogrib Inuit dinner: pickled caribou tongue, caribou marrow, unseasoned caribou ribs w/o sauce (dry as cardboard), and grilled lake trout. I don't believe George ate one bite that night!

Good times, good times.
