Trozacky ..... It was a drive by posting. If you want info on the hunt I would email him. He will probably never be on the forum again.

From what I've seen in the past, auction hunts like this always come with an excuse of why someone can't go and they try to sell them to make a profit. Usually trophy fees are sky high and you will end up paying way more than if you would just purchase the hunt with an outfitter rather than an auction. These types of offers always seem fishy to me.

For what it is worth I hunted with Numzaan Safaris about 10 years ago. Had a great hunt. Got a Cape Eland that taped 39 inches and a 53 inch Kudu, a good blue wildebeest, a really nice waterbuck a couple good impala and a nice warthog. That was my 3rd safari and it was a good one.

I read this post and it didn't make any sense to me. I've seen tons of so called auction hunts posted, along with hunts people win and then claim they can't go on. They are always listed with what the hunt is supposedly worth and then how cheap you can get it without any ability to contact the outfitter to see if this hunt even exists or if it's transferable.
Too much risk with too many red flags.

No one think this could be a scam? No probably not a scam...African safaris are often given away at auction/raffle like this. The person who wins it realizes it's going to cost substantial money because all that they are really giving away is the lodging and a tropny fee credit for one or two animals. Plus you have airfare and other expenses getting to Africa. It's a business model that is kinda unique to Africa and not as often New Zealand. I went last year on a hunt I won in Namibia and had a great time. When I fiquired it up the money I "saved" in buying it at auction really was not that different then if I just booked the hunt. However, I did have a great time and both the outfitter and I contributed to a great oraganization. It also gave me a great excuse to go back to Africa. As an aside if I won it I would go, but I just love African hunting. Don't know anyone who has gone and not had a wonderful time.

It's not. Plains game daily fees range from a low of $300 to a high of maybe $700 at the really expensive places. This package only covers the daily fee with a $500 credit for game. That equates to maybe one impala or similar. At most this package is worth (5 x $600) - $500 = $2500. If you look on the outfitters board, the hunts offered by fvh40 ( http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbth...unt#Post6038263), are a much better value, although his accommodations might be less luxurious ( I haven't been to either place, so I cannot comment on that ). FWIW fvh40 has a great reputation on several hunting boards: I'd book a hunt with him without hesitation.

I have bought quite a few auction hunts at the safari club dinner and auction they have every year in Houston. I've been to Africa twice, New Zealand, Argentina, British Columbia and Australia on auction hunts and they were all good values. BUT...you have to make sure you read the fine print and understand what you're getting. Some aren't as good of a value as they seem once you dig into what you really get. But with a little attention to detail, some homework, and knowing up front what the hunt would cost if you just booked it straight out with an outfitter, you can spot the good deals and hopefully be the winning bidder.

I came up with $8000.00 value by going to their website. 4 clients x 300/day = $6,000 plus $500x4 trophy fees equals another $2,000. Technically not a bad price if you can find three other people to go. And their trophy fees are not out of line with most places.

Ah, you're right about the 4 person's fees. My mistake.
