So, there is no measurement for "mass" but some guys quote this when they score a deer. Why do they use that terminology?

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

I notice it has 3 width measurements. Do you average these or what?

The only one that factors into the score is inside spread

I notice it has 3 width measurements. Do you average these or what? No. The tip to tip and outside spread are not added. They are for identification. A lot of people add one or both, anyway, which explains a lot of inflated scores. Just fill everything in and add what it tells you to add together.

I'd like to know the algorithm behind the score. I've found a pdf of the front of the score sheet but the instructions are on the reverse side.
As for width, I've heard some say it is to the center of the main beam, but the drawing with the instructions doesn't show that. It also says the width score can't exceed longest main beam length.

Well, the taxi who scored him said that was a twelfth point but it didn't look like an inch long to me. Let's say it is.

MB 22" x2=44" Width 18.5 G1 4"&2"= 6" G2 6"x2 = 12" G3 8" x2 = 16" G4 7"x2= 14" G5 1"x2 = 2" H1 3"x2 = 6" H2 2.5"x 2 = 5" H3 2"x2 =4" H4 2"x2 = 4" 131.5" Now this is rough scoring off of a pic, which we all do on trail cams. The angle is hard for me to really tell alot of detail on tine length. To simplify i treated him as if he were symetrical.

I will be picking up my mount tomorrow and will let you know how this compares to reality. I forgot to take notes when the taxidermist scored it.

I would say mid 140s hard to judge tine length off that pic though so that's a rough guess

They have a app for that. It's called scoremyrack.

As for width, I've heard some say it is to the center of the main beam, but the drawing with the instructions doesn't show that. It also says the width score can't exceed longest main beam length. Width is measured between the beams. People like to measure tines to the middle of the beam, too, and that's wrong. Measure the inside spread, straight across, at its widest point. Take 4 circumference measurements per side, between the base and brow tine, then between each tine, all at the smallest point. On an eight point, the 4th measurement will be halfway between the last tine and the tip of the main beam. Measure each main beam. Measure each tine, starting at the base, where the main beam would be if the point weren't there. Add it all up. That's your gross B&C typical score. For a nontypical, just measure the length of all the NT points and add that, as well.

Okay, I got my mount back and measured it as well as I could.
Widths: 13 3/4, 19 3/4, 17 3/4
Mainbeams: 20 3/4, 22 1/8
Points:
Left: 4 3/4, 4 7/8, 8, 6 1/4, 1 = 46 5/8
Right: 2, 4 1/8, 7 1/4, 5 7/8, 4 1/4 = 44
Girths:
Left: 4 1/4, 3 1/2, 3 1/4, 3 1/4 = 14
Right: 4 1/2, 3 1/2, 3, 3 = 13 5/8
Total: 17 6/8 + 46 5/8 + 44 + 14 + 13 5/8 = 136
The taxidermist scored it at 139
In doing this scoring I made the assumption that an inch of width, mainbeam, point length, and girth are all treated the same way, none counts more than another, is that right?

Correct.
I'd say you got it right. Or close enough, anyway.
