About 95% of my pictures this season have been taken at night. I've seen very few deer all season. Shot a doe early, and had a shot at a deer on thanksgiving I really regret passing on. I've seen 2 other bucks who never gave me a shot and only appeared for a few seconds. I've got one or two more hunts before I'm out of time. Hopefully something comes around in the next 1.5 hours.

My season has been about the same. Just not seeing a lot of deer when I'm in the stands. Plenty of them still eating acorns in the yard, in the dark. This is so different from past years. I really thought I had figured out this deer movement thing, but I was way wrong. Of course I remember years like this back where I grew up (NE Louisiana), when the deer were hard to find and when we knew there were plenty of deer.

So...looking at what's different this year. Water, grass, acorns, that's what's different here. All I can figure is that deer don't have to move around to find food this season. As my cousin used to say "the deer eat where they bed down, and if they get hungry they just need to roll over and eat on the other side". Food is everywhere. But why do they eat at night?

Oh well, I did get one of the spikes I was hunting, and the grandson got the nice 8 point that I was hoping he'd get, and he got a couple of pigs for the freezer. So not a bad season. I just like watching the deer, and that isn't happening.

10 minutes after I posted, 3 does walked out. I had to borrow my dad's rifle, as mine is having some work done. He's got a 1lb target trigger in it. I was prepared for it, and it still surprised me. I watched myself shoot 3 feet over the biggest doe. One of the smaller does panicked and froze. Blew up her lungs. She went 10-15 yards. So now I've got 2 doe in the freezer. Just one more hunt all day sunday to find one of the 3 shooter bucks ive got on camera.

Also, I'm going to process this one myself for the first time. I've skinned and quartered a whole bunch of deer, that part is easy. Anybody have a link to a good video or website for helping me make the cuts I want?

at the start of season they were coming out during daytime which gave me my chance to
fill tags... lately most show up at night

there were a lot of shooting from properties around me,, they're smart enough
to equate 'shots' to transition to 'night'

So this is my first year hunting in Texas. I can get a hundred pics a night off one feeder from 630 at night until 530 the next morning every night. Is this not the norm? Will other years I see more daytime activity?

I sure feel better knowing my season has been like you guys are saying. I've yet to see a buck that met the 13-inch rule, and very few doe.

Not going to throw in the towel just yet. Should be a good evening to hunt my food plot.

This is the second year in a row that our deer have been nocturnal. Between last season and this season, I have close to 10,000 trail cam pictures of bucks at a protein feeder. All of the pictures are from 9PM to 4M, not one single picture of a buck in daylight hours. It has been beyond frustrating to say the least. I have seen only one buck this season and he was not a legal buck.

I get that we have had record rain and the deer have not had to do much in the way of traveling to find food. I am just stunned at the fact that we are not seeing buck moving at all. During the rut, I did not see one single buck and I saw just 1 doe.

Im on a lease in north Comanche county and its been the same way.

My place in East Comanche County has been the same way. I still haven't shot anything. At this point, I'm just praying I see a doe by Jan 17th.

I'm not complaining because I do have 3 deer in the freezer, but this nocturnal thing sucks. We have more deer than ever and are seeing maybe a tenth of what we normally see. We used to be able to come out any time we wanted and shoot a doe. They were everywhere. Now it's a chore just to find one. And we know they are all over the place. Just. Ot coming out in the daytime.

We saw an older doe and a yearling or fawn in the headlights going to the blind yesterday morning. They came back out right at first light and shot the doe. Nobody saw anything for the rest of the day and nothing so far this morning.

I think the extremely late rut is messing things up as much as anything else.

I'm in Comanche Co also and have not seen but one buck one morning. He stayed at the feeder eating corn for a little over 10 minutes, of course he was not legal. I hope the late Antlerless/Doe season is better..
I would like to be able to put at least one deer in the freezer this year.

Yeah its been a rough season for us as well, only took 1 doe back in November and its been only does at night on the cams. Haven't seen a single buck. Except for a spike we passed on.

Glad to hear it wasn't just us. I took a doe a couple weeks ago and she was one of the first and only deer I got to lay eyes on. Plenty on camera but 90% nocturnal. Had a great buck show up once on camera but otherwise haven't seen any antlers.

We had the same mostly nocturnal movement in Eastern Wilco where we hunt.
With the exception of opening weekend. Saw deer on most hunts but very few.
Breaking out the thermal after dark, the deer were everywhere.
