I just picked up one of these from Academy using some Christmas returns/gift cards and it seems like a nice cooler. I have hung my hat on igloo marine coolers for quite a few years but wanted a smaller "on the go" cooler that will double as a brisket resting box.
The igloo's I have are too big for general/weekend use and I wanted something durable. I was leaning to the igloo stx (stainless hinges, latches, etc) but this Magellan caught my eye.
They had it on the shelf with the yeti so I was able to do some unscientific comparison.
Magellan has reversible feet for nylon skid or silicone anti-skid options. Also, 2 integrated bottle openers in the front lock "hasp" areas just like the igloo Yukon. Also igloo Yukon style rubber latches. Molded handles as well as removable strap handles with a 3rd hole for tie-downs. Very nice drain plugs although I hear they weep a little. Also, a basket to hold stuff inside is included (dry ice?).
Some very Yukon-like features so the rumor that igloo provides the unit to Academy and possibly gander mountain's house-brand cooler may be substantial although the Magellan is made in China. Igloo's proximity to Academy's HQ is also telling of the possible connection.
Time will tell if it was little money well spent.

It is $199+tax.
A few scuffs on the bottom so the front end supervisor took 5% off.
Subtracting my gift cards I paid $129 out of pocket.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I was going to buy a Roadie, but this cooler was $50 cheaper and twice as big. I can't imagine there being that big of a difference between the name brand coolers and this. I have not really used mine yet, so I don't really have a review to provide. It does seem well made. The handles do make me a little nervous, seems like they could break only time will tell.

I took the rope handles off. Easier to carry with the molded hand holds.

I'll check them out. And good idea, might as well get used to it cause you know the rope is only gonna last so long.
