This subject has been on my mind since I went on my previous duck hunt Yes I am a big supporter in you eat what you kill and don't waste and respect the animal for giving its life so we can eat it However I think the two things I enjoy most about hunting is being in the outdoors watching the birds fly as the sun comes up and also the people you hunt with my last hunt was terrible 35+mph winds horrible rain but was still one of my favorite hunts it was my dad and I and a guide who we have used in the passed we talked for a few hours while we waited for birds I enjoy the company that I hunt with I think those are my two favorite things about hunting what are yalls why do y'all enjoy hunting?

Hunting to me is about the experiences I encounter while outdoors. Many memories are made.

It's just something that's in my blood, much like feeling of accomplishment that I get after harvesting a deer, or removing a nuisance animal.

My answer cannot adequately be put into words. But it has to do with three things I think:
1)It connects me to the past and memories of hunting with my grandfathers, father, men who were like fathers to me, and many great friends;
2)It allows me to "Be still, and know that He is God". There's nothing like His Creation and I am drawn to it in a way I can't explain. Hunting is in our human DNA - some have just lost touch with this fact.
3)It takes me away from the distractions of life and allows me to reflect, relax, and refresh.
I believe it was William Faulkner who said of hunting that "What every man is really hunting for is himself". Those are the best words I have yet found to answer your question.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Being outdoors with nature, leaving the hustle and bustle of work behind, spend time with friends and family and to fill the freezer.

My DNA demands it. I cannot do otherwise.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I hunt to keep up tradition (family history) and for meat in the freezer.
I hunt bucks because I like to garden and "grow" stuff. I enjoy spending time, money, and energy trying to "grow" a nice buck to harvest. All I want is one nice one in which I have spent lots of the above 3 to obtain. Not sure why, but I love to grow veggies and all sorts of stuff. Its also why I enjoy making food plots. (My dad does not understand this, or how anyone will spend all the time and energy to hunt, but to each his own)
I have also noticed I sleep the best at our Ranch.

'I hunt because I'm a hunter.' Ray Sasser, Outdoors writer for The Dallas Morning News
Perhaps the simplest and best explanation I think I have ever read and one I deeply agree with.

One of the few times I can agree with NP 100%

I enjoy stalking and killing animals, and then eating them.

It's primal. It's in our DNA...putting food on the family table. I can't explain it to myself and I sure can't explain it to non-hunters.
It's getting in touch with God and nature.
It's getting away from the "real world"...or maybe it is the "real world."

For the meat!! Actually, that's just a bonus. (But it is my job as the head of the family to bring home the bacon!)
No prayer in school....What's next, no thinking in church? It's not just about pie in the sky when you die. It's also about steak on your plate while you wait!

I hunt because I like to drink beer all day and kill things. At night I like to drink whiskey and cook them.
