I bet we saw 1,000 birds though this morning in an area that just doesn't have that many even in good years. Only issue was we were ultimately hunting a 1500 acre piece of sheet water with a 2 mph wind. Birds just couldn't make up their mind

We killed 10 this morning, all divers 9 ringnecks and 1 canvasback. Birds flew right at LST and decoyed. 20 minutes after LST, very few birds and the ones that did fly over would not decoy or respond to calling.

I'm hoping water level is down enough by Thursday. If not, I'll have to wait till Saturday. First time ever I wished for less water during duck season. Would be fine if Chamber Creek wasn't busted, but that's just how it is. The previous flood didn't get down to normal pool until last weekend, and I would say we are about 6-8' deep now with this last flood.

Here is our resting area...

Yes it did. Had an 8 o'clock mallard flight. And a lone grey duck. That was it.

Not a puddler snob- but have hunted about 15 times YTD- didn't limit 2x could have w ringers. I will shoot maybe 10 year total- they suck. I have sat and watched groups of 5-25 come in without blinking. I love red heads and Canvasbacks- but Ringers will decoy to a tird- stupid and taste horrible. Won't ruin my sausage w them.

Used to shoot everything in my 20's and 30's - mainly about shooting them in the face and dog work now

Good luck to all

Sometimes I wonder which is worse, only seeing that many birds or seeing a ton of them that can't make up their mind. We scratched out a little dab of greys and greenheaded mallets.

The greenheads came in pretty close, prob about 6 yds off the barrel

Yup, tough day for ducks but a great day to be on the lake.
And my boy made a couple outstanding cripple retrieves...

That's great. I'd pass on ringers too but I like taking my 82 year old grandpa who can barely see or stand anymore to a pond full of ringers and letting him get a few shots in. He can't quite make it to areas puddlers have been hanging out in lately but still likes to duck hunt. I can drive up to the blind at this place and the shots are usually about 10-15 feet.

Plus, my dog can't tell the difference between retrieving a mallard or a ringer. A Win-Win.

High water definitely hurt puddle ducks today. Got a bit more aggressive drawing water out. They like 18" or less. Should have left boards out last week mad

Loved it today. Had the mallard machine, the bilge pump butts, a quiver puck and a jerk string running. Worked well, we had tons in the decoys early. Later decoyed some gadwalls and a nice group of pintails.

Got a couple of these from a buddy of mine:

Set one up today and it looks great -- much better than the straight line of dekes I get with a normal jerk string...

Scaup and ruddys are what we called blue bills.
They're diver ducks.
