Is there such a thing as a budget Axis hunt? #6105222 12/28/15 03:05 AM

My freezer is almost completely cleaned out from last year's deer. I have struck out on whitetail hunting so far this year, and I may not get another chance to go. My family recently tried Axis for the first time and now my wife actually prefers that to whitetail. Is there any realistic way to fill an average-sized home freezer with Axis venison (two does or one buck) for $500 or less?

Any input/advice/suggestions are welcome.

I have been pricing Axis hunts lately and the answer is no. Does are going for $500 and the bucks would be 2k or up. I saw an Axis doe offered at 1k, not sure if they priced them that way to keep folks from shooting them or not.

Best of Luck in finding something.

I'm seeing $450-500 per axis doe. Saw fallow doe in Beorne for $300.

Yes Sir!! Absolutely!! I am a huge fan of the forum and have enjoyed for many years. A lot the gentleman and ladies are ranch owners and sell hunts on the forum. Some way over priced and some with great deals. I look for hunts on-line 365 days a year. I am always looking for an awesome deal and when I run across one I go on a hunt. I can give you some help. First take a look at "A Place to Hunt Ranch.com". You can get an axis Doe for 300.00 an immature axis buck for 300.00 or a cull buck for 600.00. Not big trophy animals but if you are looking for meat its a great deal. Tell John Sheldon Luciano sent you. I know another guy you can take take a trophy axis for 1500.00 which sounds like more than you want to spend but he has an exceptional requirement. You take three axis doe for free if you shoot a buck to help him thin his herd. He has way to many axis doe right now. I spoke with another guy who has 3200 acres near Rocksprings free range and his axis doe were at a great price along with a lot of his other animals. I can post his number on here for you tomorrow. I think his Axis bucks were 700 and over 30 inches 1000. I have hunted several times with people I have found on Craigslist. I would stay away from cheap day hunts free range as most are over hunted. Go with a high fence if you are looking for meat and find a good deal. I look in the sporting section and look in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Dallas and all over. The forum here has some great places just have to look for a good deal. Make sure to look in the outfitters section also. I have an Iranian Red sheep hunt in two weeks. High fenced and up to 34 inches. 2k total. Huge ranch. Most places are 3500-4500 for a red sheep of that caliber. I shot a trophy Gemsbok for 3000 on a 20 thousand acre high fence in west Texas. I shot a 35 inch Aoudad for 2500 and a great hunt. The deals are there. Shot a beautiful 163 whitetail. 3k. Just have to look and for me my hobby at night before bed is on my iPad looking for hunts. Good Luck!!!

The prices you quoted are almost twice as much as he has budgeted. Also, since he wanted a buck instead of 3 does one has to assume that he meant something more than a spike.

Typically the only place you are going to find 3 axis deer in that category for a total of $500 is going to be a ranch that is over run and trying to thin their population. While that's possible, it's rare. Especially when does are selling at auction for 600-900 bucks.

Good luck.

He asked for one buck or two doe for 500 or less? I gave him an option on an axis buck at 300 and one for 600.00. I gave him an option for two axis doe for 600.00. As far as I know that's not twice as much as 500.00. That would be 1000.00 dollars twice as much. The guy with an axis buck is over run with axis doe and that's why he is giving you 3 if you shoot a buck for 1500.00. Anyone paying 600-900 at auction for an axis doe right now is not doing their homework!! If I want to I can find axis doe to go dart all over for 300.00 or less or go find stockers all ready to go for less than 600-900. I'll will give you an example. Eight point ranch in Elgin Texas near Austin. Ask for Robert? He is a great guy!! His axis doe stockers right now are 500.00 dollars on his website. If you bought quite a few I bet you can get a deal on them. Get a couple of guys together looking to buy and you really up the quantity to buy for less. not trying to be disrespectful Sir just saying deals are everywhere. You just have to look. I understand people doing this for a living want the most from there animals. Cost of the ranch, high fencing, feed, guiding, lodging, stands ect.. I am sure cost a fortune. For a man of means it does not matter. For the guy who has to save for a hunt it's not easy. I love to hunt and that's why my hobby at night before I go to bed is to look for deals. Just trying to let people know who may need a break on price just to fill the freezer there are deals out there. I had a guy today quote me 3500-4500 for a trophy axis on the phone. I know better and can find a 32 -33 inch axis fairly easy for 1500-1800.

My axis does run $350 and if on a trophy hunt I usually throw them in for about $250. I will have some deals in the summer time for multiple does as well.
