I dislike HEB, but dont blame them one bit.

I don't care if someone open carries, it's just not for me.

Better not to advertise anyway....the only thing I like the open carry is that with concealed carry the weapon must stay concealed...even accidental display violates the law...now with open carry it doesn't.....

I don't plan to open carry unless I'm at the lease or ranch....same as now....

I was having a conversation with someone about private businesses opting to disallow open carry. He's very pro OC and likened it to blacks being forced to use black only facilities before the Civil Rights Movement. The majority of the OC crowd I've met is WAY out there.

I don't have a problem with HEB's stance. It's there business and they can set the rules. If you feel the need for protection while youre roaming the produce section, then get a chl.

I was under the impression you had to have a CHL in order to open carry??

I can see it now: as you look up from smelling a cantaloupe you catch the eye of an Affliction shirt-wearing goofball who pulls his duster back away from his hogleg and says "I'm your huckleberry...." grin

They are still allowing concealed carry, so all of the stuff being thrown around about them being anti-gun is nonsense. If I was going to avoid stores for being anti-gun, it seems like it would make more sense to avoid the ones that don't allow any carry. HEB has a right to write their policies as they see fit just like people have the right to stop shopping there in protest.

No one has yet to convince me on the merits of open carry.

They are not anti gun. They don't want to take the chance of offending customers that are against it. There will be many businesses follow.
I think it is just fine, there are people that are scared by guns, right or wrong, and they are simply making the choice not to have them seen. I think that concealed is better anyway. I really don't want anyone to know I am armed.

I have no problem with their decision, probably a liability issue, look for others to follow very soon.

They changed that back in Sept. '13 when they made the distinction between "intentionally displays" and "fails to conceal". Unintentional or accidental display isn't a violation since then. Moot point in a few days, sure.

Reminder – Firearms and Dangerous Weapons Forbidden In Federal Facilities
USDA Service Centers and Farm Service Agency Offices are Off Limits for Firearms

On Jan. 1, 2016, House Bill 910 takes effect allowing licensed Texans to, “open carry,” handguns.

This is an important reminder to all customers and patrons of USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices and USDA Service Centers statewide that firearms are forbidden (even with a permit/license) in Federal Buildings. A Federal Building by definition is any building owned, leased or rented by the Federal Government, where Federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties–this includes the 173 USDA Farm Service Agency offices in Texas.

The items that are prohibited in Federal facilities include any item prohibited by any applicable Federal, State, local, and tribal law and/or ordinance, as well as firearms, dangerous weapons, explosives, or other destructive devices (including their individual parts or components) designed, redesigned, used, intended for use, or readily converted to cause injury, death, or property damage. Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities as outline above is a crime punishable by fines and imprisonment.

For a complete list of items prohibited in Federal facilities, please view and/or download the document titled, Items Prohibited from Federal Facilities: An Interagency Security Committee Standard: http://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/p...eb-2013-508.pdf . The lists of prohibited items outlined in this document apply to all facility occupants, contractors, and the visiting public.

If you have questions or concerns regarding this notification, please contact the USDA Farm Service Agency State Office at 979-680-5151.

Can't say that I blame em. I personally don't like the open carry idea.
