youtube video

Did some hunting before the storm up here in the top of Texas. The fist part of the video was on a playa that was FULL of birds and has been all season, But they are very hard to hunt. They love to land out in the middle and we have had a hard time trying to pull them to the bank. We thought the strong North wind would help but 99% of them still landed out in the middle. The previous week we laid out in our diablo kayaks in the middle and limited on teal. With the North winds gusting 30-40 that wasn't an option for this hunt. The second part of the video was a blast. We limited out by 8am with 3 groups of teal, a single wood duck, and a single widgeon that worked the spread. We don't see many wood ducks at all up here so that was cool to get one.

Good stuff thanks for sharing. Know the feeling of having them land in the middle too well. Build a blind right in the middle of that thing !

I know, we have talked about it. This playa has not had water in it for 3 years, and they usually lock up with ice in December. It's hard to justify for a couple of weekends a year. After this week it will most likely be frozen for the rest of the year, the long term forecast doesn't have us getting above freezing for a long time. If it has water at the beginning of next season we might just build a blind out there.

Not sure if you have them but we had a lot of success using a lot of duck decoys up there. 8-10 dozen. Sure you are still going to have some ducks land in the middle but it seemed to me that helped out a lot.
