Drew a TPWD hunt on the Cross Bar ranch north of Amarillo. Rough country, no blinds and you have to pack your deer to the road. No ATVs Allowed. By rule you must stay on the ranch the entire hunt because they lock the gates behind you and then escort you out 3 days later. Looking at this forecast and knowing there will be a lot of snow on the ground I'm leaning toward whimping out. Your thoughts? Decent bucks been spotted there.

I'd go for it. I would however pack my bolt cutters. I don't like the thought of being locked in under those conditions.

I would pack my best gear, extra diesel, and go for it.
But, Dave, you're old. I would hate to have to drive up there just to look for a Dave Popsicle.

This reminds me of my girlfriends daughter that whines after being in the blind for three hours. I told her she has to go hunt on my land in Wisconsin one winter where it's 20 below windchill, you are 15 ft up in the air in a stand, no blind, no cover, just leaned against a tree from an hour before sunrise till sunset. Suck it up and go on the hunt

As others have said. If you have the right equipment then go for it. But if your winter gear is for south Texas, then yes, you can be a little sissy. I was going to use another word, but most likely would have gotten censored.

Game will be much easier to spot the first clear day you have with snow cover. Take a couple of pair of hiking boots and get after it.

If I had clothing and equipment for that kind of weather, I would go. I would be furious if I stayed home and got reports back on how good the hunting was.

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

So where do you stay at night?
My cold weather gear would barely past mustard for STX so there's not a chance I'd be out in that weather without a place to go to get warm.

So where do you stay at night? Your options are tent camping or bring a trailer in. I'm bringing a small travel trailer assuming the roads will allow.

I'd go. Nobody wants to hear a good story 20 years from now about how you sat on a couch all weekend back in the day and watched reruns....
