I posted back in October about having this gun coming my way. I finally have taken possession of it. Can anybody tell me about the cheek pad on this thing. Was it factory? Has anyone seen anything similar? Thanks

looks like it was added. post these on 24 hour campfire. they have a Winchester collector section. they will know for sure.

I think it is factory my grandfather has a gun that is just like this i personly never toughed my gradfath was a strict man but very fair and honest man he is the only man who ever intimidated me. mostly our of respect because if you didn't he beet it in to you never the less he was one of the most caring and hard men i ever meet I did not touch a lot of his stuff just what he told me i could i neve ask either i dont know what it is on but he was not one to do modifications to anything and he didn't buy thing used my father said it was to allow for a better check weld for for smaller guys like my mosburg shotgun had 3 adjustable cheek pieces depending one your size and if you the cantilever rifled barrel for mount a scope or the 28insmooth bore bid shot barrel. it came with a low medium and tall he as dementia and looses track of stuff like were he is going or what to do next or i would ask him i can tell you in the spring when i pick them up. being the only grandson on my moms side of the family all the guns but one postal he brought back from WWII i get that goes to my mothers cousin i have a good collection now but this spring it will now by 10-13 long guns and 6 and guns to win clude the 38spcial police issue a cop friend of his sent it to him when he was over in Grany he carried for 2yrs and never fired it

Doesn't look factory to me at all. Looks like somebody who was a pretty dang good wood worker added it at some point.

Cheekpiece is not factory, recoil pad not factory, almost certain stock not factory.

I'm no expert but I have read up on these rifles and own several of them.

The checkering has flats, not points.

This is a valid and useful checkering style, but to my knowledge Winchester has always had the checkering come to a point.

So I would guess that this very nice rifle is a pre-64 Win with a custom stock.

I'm gonna agree with Charles this time. At the least, the stock has been customized and recoil pad added.

Not factory, but pretty neat.

When I first saw the gun, I thought the wood was in rough shape but looking at it more, it actually is a very nice wood stock. The cheek pad I am not a fan of especially considering that I am left handed but overall its a nice looking pre 64 Winchester(serial puts it 1949 production). I haven't decided if I want to keep it or not. I'll have to shoot it first. Thanks for all the help and info. I've done a lot of searching and have not come across one with the exact same cheek piece, so I am also fairly certain the stock is not from the factory.

It's a Featherweight, what cal. is it? I have one in .243 and it's very accurate.

No matter, you got a great piece of history and even better it was a family heirloom. There may not be any $$ collector value but this one needs to be scoped, shot, hunted with and passed down to your child someday

Its stamped 270wcf on the barrel which I think is pretty cool. (270 win)

I think its a standard model, 26" barrel, pretty heavy gun.

Hopefully I can sight it in this week, maybe shoot a pig if it shoots decent.

put a really good quality scope on, get some good quality ammo. I think you will be surprised how well it shoots

I'd clean all the metal fouling out of that bore and start fresh. There's no telling how much is in there, how many layers, and how many of different compositions.

If it was me, I'd see about removing that rollover from the buttstock...but it ain't me, is it?
