Pull the bolt and bore sight it first. That'll help with shoulder pain the next day.

Fonzie, bottom line is, if you are going to be a rifle owner, its imperative that you learn to sight your own rifles in. If it's your very first rifle, I get it. But I don't think that's the case here. Plus, its kind of a man card violation...

No "man card violation" there. Not everybody knows how to sight one in, and it's best to learn how through instruction.
I think the fellows who offered to meet him at the range have the right idea. - That's how I learned how to sight in and adjust a scope, a buddy went to the range with me and showed me how he did it with just a few rounds.
Watching YouTube is OK I guess, but it's not as much fun as learning with a friend.
Kind regards, charlesb

What ever's cold and on sale for this project. You'll leave knowing how to do it and with a zeroed rifle.

I think there was somebody offering to meet at the range that had a new radar chrono. That person could probably show you

If you're learning, I would take firemanjg's offer to heart. I've known plenty of very experienced hunters and shooters in my life that didn't understand some of the basic principles of sighting a rifle. It is not the same as practicing with your chosen rifle.

Tff I hear you... Yes first rifle... I'd rather have someone who KNOWS what they are doing and me watch and learn... Having someone sight a rifle for you because you know nothing about firearms is like having someone start up a car so you can get behind the wheel and drive with no prior experience. As already suggested, best to find a good mentor who can share his/her knowledge with you. I woukd also suggest signing up for a local TPWD Hunter Education (classroom taught) training course. The course workbook alone includes lots of basic information on firearms.

Thank you for all the offers... I'm meeting a guy at the range I a few day after all this mess passes over... Never done any hunting with a rifle (yes I've shot them but only at the range) all my hunting had been done with two cur dogs a bull dog and a buck knife... Just this year I got permission to hunt deer on a place on graham... Needless to say I'm jumping on the opportunity... I have allot to learn and I'm aware of that.. Thanks again for the help offered...

Fonzie I'm in a similar situation and I'm also in Fort Worth. I would be interested to know who/where you are doing this with and how it goes. I'm looking for someone to site in 2 rifles. Elk Castle told me they bore sight then the rest is up to me. On Target's website says they will "assist" you but you really have to do it yourself. Alpine's website says they have "complete sight-in services" so I'm gonna give them a call. I'm kinda surprised it's so difficult to find a full-service place that will do this. These are my first rifles also also and I simply don't have the time or energy to figure it out right now. I can't justify taking off work to do it myself.
