Going to see some outfitters and met some friends. If there are some deals may book a caribou hunt.

I might go. The outfitter I hunt with in Ks has been invited for this show and will have a booth set up. Heard it is a nice one. May even bring one of my mounts to help him out.

Yep, they would enjoy it. Went last year for the first time and I plan to go again this year.

Suggestions for what?

It is essentially a giant hunting store. Most booths are outfitters but a lot of gun dealers, optics dealers, reloading companies, or various accessories.

The thing is huge though...lots of walking...

Yeah....Pecan Lodge BBQ. On Main St. a few blocks east of downtown in Deep Ellum.

There can be long lines but you can order at the bar, so watch for chairs and snag them if you can. food

We will be there either Thursday or Friday. My wife and I try to go every year. Some years we book a hunt, some years we just enjoy seeing what's there and saying hi to old friends. Kind of wanting a cape buffalo or a moose hunt, but really focusing on building our trophy room this year!!!

I went one time on a Saturday and will never do that again!!!

Wear good walking shoes, plan on about 4 hours if you just walk it without much talking, plan on much more time if you're hunt shopping. Bring a stack of money

I'm sure by now the close hotels in downtown are booked. I would stay on the outskirts in grapevine, frisco, or Plano but I say that because I hate down town for the most part. 20 minute drive.

Mainly looking for suggestions on things to see or do, things to avoid, must see aspects of the convention. Would be interested in some of the seminars, but can't seem to find a schedule for them. I have a cousin who lives close so I might see if I can stay with her for a night. Go Friday morning and Sat.

And Cleric, I am so glad those pants of yours were destroyed. I think courdoroy on a fat woman would have made less noise! lmbo.

Saturday will have the most "whistling gophers" in attendance - good ol' boys that ask every outfitter "How much that go for?" then whistle when they hear the price. laugh

Tons of South African outfitters and lots of Alaskan fishing trips. With USFWS just recently listing lion as "threatened", some of the Zimbabwe outfitters may have some bargains on plainsgame to try and cover their costs, I don't know. Not a good situation. Avoid South African outfitters that operate in Zimbabwe.

Good place to look through different scopes , if you're in the market.

I don't see how anyone could actually book a hunt just based on meeting an outfitter at a show. confused2

Decent starting point for research though.

exactly! don't drink and book! I bet you more than half the bookings are knee jerk a few too many beers and trying to show off in front of friends. never ever book without first checking reviews online.

I love the show to browse cool products, outfitter mounts/pics, and good people watching from hired models to trophy wifes. I'm a customer of several outfitters there and nice to check up with them, they use the show weekend to catch up with customers like me and show their employees/guides a good time in the big city.

I personally don't care for the predominance of high fence outfitters and safari hunts, but like the internet you learn to filter what you want.

Buyer beware, many outfitters are there because they can't support their business on word of mouth or customer recommendations alone. They need the show and there is some head hunting, but the game might just be you.
