Looking at making my ar15 a truck gun and was wondering what optics would you want ?
Aimpoint Or 1x4 scope Or what I have always wanted to try ACog
Gun may be used for hogs as well at night

A 1-4x scope would be useful. Works well at night too, as long as the light source is not behind you.
Aimpoint, ACOG? I couldn't say for sure.

SS 1-6X is what I put on my 16" carbine that stays in the truck.
Can get crystal clear at 10 yards, and the first day I zeroed it at 100, I stepped out to 300 and 400 first round hit on each.
The 1-6X i pricey, but they also make a 1-4X which would be a much more robust scope than the Vortex Viper.
edit: I also had an engagement with a sounder of hogs on open ground. Shots were 70 yards to 250 yards. The scope was the perfect tool for the job.

My truck gun is a DPMS LR-243 Lite and my choice of optics for that rifle is a Leupold VX- 3.5-10x50 illuminated reticle with 30 mm tube. I know it's not light and tacticool but it works for me. Being out on the ranch everyday I wanted a combination varmint , hog and deer rifle. This rifle is also my main varmint calling rifle.

Burris Mtac has been good for my truck gun. Leave it on 1x for quick target accusation, haven't used it at night time yet so can't speak on that. Aimpoint Comp M4 is a dang tough optic, can be left on for a few years without running out of battery, but it's only a 1x. Could always throw a 3x magnifier behind it. Can't speak for the Acog as that's out of my price range for what it is

Can't go wrong with ^^^^^
Assuming a "truck gun" does not mean long range precision, any quality 1-4 or 1-6 scope would be good. I am a fan of the 1X for close range and like the 4 or 6X for a longer range shot.
A lighted reticle is good for night time hog or predator hunting. I favor a reticle with fine subtensions and do not care for target turrets for such a scope. My fav is the SWFA 1-6 as JG mentioned, but it is pricey.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

Have a Vortex Strike Eagle that will be going on the truck gun very soon. It will be replacing a 2-7X32 Leupold Rifleman that no longer holds zero

I have been underwhelmed with Vortex in low light.

Hard to go back to anything else after using an ACOG. I love it for a truck gun and the optic should last forever.

I had an acog on my m4 while deployed to iraq it worked just fine for close quarters house clearing and longer range ambushes it never failed me and it was one tuff scope and took a beating but the price is kind of steep i dont feel they are worth the price but to each is own a lot of people would say i have a lot of fishing stuff they would not pay for or is to expensive but i dont think so

Painfully missing punctuation.
Evidently, the ACOG (which model is unclear)is good near and far, is "tuff", but not worth the money.

Cut him some slack. He's recovering from a head injury suffered in Iraq, caused by an I.E.D. explosion.

I'm with Chemdawg on ACOG. Love the optic but hard to justify the price for a truck gun. I've got a Bushnell Elite 1-6.5x24 I really like but only paid $499 for. Vortex Strike Eagle will be my next short range scope.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Look at the SWFA 1-4 classic. Capable tough optic that is a bargain at $400.
