I wanna shoot in it this year, but I gotta send my rifle to Derrick after deer season is over to work on the stock. Idk if I'll have it back soon enough to get any practice in.

Just curious why you'd limit the muzzle velocity if your only shooting to 300 yards.not much to be gained or lost at that short distance

I think it's about the higher fps rounds damaging the steel.

^^Exactly right^^

A 55 gr. 223 will damage steel, inside 400 yards, where as a 210 gr .300 Win Mag will not.

High speed bullets divet steel, energy does not. I've never tried it, but I'm pretry sure that 3/8" AR 500 rigid mounted and a tack driving .223. If A guy can stack shots the bullet will eventually punch through.

I'm planning to attend this yr. I don't have a chronograph to get actual MV of my 6mm Remington hand loads with 105 hpbt's over 42.2gr H4350 tho...

Shoot it long range and work the MV backwards in a ballistic calculator.
