18" loaded with 130's would be cool.

129 ABLR's actually.(run in my wife's creedmoor) I'm tired of carring three boxes of ammo. This will be a straight up 300 yard or under truck/hunting rifle. (With that said I get bored in the panhandle some times ) I just wonder how jumpy a 18" barrel will be in a gun with no action for say. I may run with a can in the future.

Worked up a load for a friend's encore in 7 Rem Mag shooting 168 Bergers on a compressed load of Retumbo, just sayin...

Not the recoil I'm worried about. Some reason my 25-06 barrel likes to rise a bit(jump). Probably form more then any thing. But then again it's a truck gun... Decisions...

Long action cartridge vs. short action cartridge and the short action won't be running a heavy for caliber bullet. If you want to keep the muzzle down, make it longer. I'd rather have an 18" or 20" though. Especially if it's getting a can.

No experience with the Creedmoor actually but muzzle blast from a 18.5 inch 7mm-08 is noticeable more than from the 20 inch barreled one I had for a while. The Creedmoor will have plenty of energy out past 300 yards from any of those barrel lengths.
From an Encore 16 to 20 inches makes for a short easy handling truck gun and a 16 would ne handier if you are planning on a suppressor. Forget who it is that is running a Horizon 6.5 Creedmoor with a 16 inch barrel and getting good results.

A 16.5" Encore would be very handy and it's all you need for 300 yards. My 16.5" Contender is one of my favorite stand guns. Go with the 18" if you can't get a 16".
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

My 260 has a 20 inch barrel. Love it. Not too long, and not too short, but juuuuuuust right.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

I did very little studying on this one but I had a thought and went with it. I have become a creedmoor fan and have long been a savage fan. Wanting a short truck gun (22" creedmoor with a 7" can is too long in single cab Toyota) I bought a savage barrel in 6.5 Grendel from gun shack for $200 and had it cut to 16.25. It's a shooter and I will see how it kills this week. I get 2950 from factory 129sst's in my 22" creed, they shoot 3" at 400 yds and kill very well, so hornady and savage are working for me so far. Jury is out on the 123 sst's in the Grendel but they shoot very well on initial testing.
