Depends on what you're shooting it out of. If you're shooting an AK or cheap AR then steel is ok. If you have a high-dollar AR then probably stick to brass.

For me it's Federal Fusion MSR ammo for hunting and for target/plinking I use Federal or PMC FMJ.

Chad's son was wearing out 500, 600, and 700 on my range this Monday with .223 ammo he loaded.

Cheap steel cased stuff, or handloads.

Steel....NEVER, lacquer coated...NEVER

for bulk shooting I like the American Eagle and Fiocchi. have a bunch of mags loaded with this for when the Zombies come to take what's mine.

Everything else is handloads for LR accuracy

Hand loads.

But seriously, there are about a thousand different 223 ammo types to choose from. What are you shooting at?

Both shooting for fun but also hunting.

I like xm193 FMJ for the range. It shoots pretty well for me. For hunting ammo, you're on your own. It will be hard to find and expensive. I hand load 60gr Partitions for hunting, but rarely use the 223 for hunting.

What's wrong with lacquer?

Speer Gold Dot if you can get the LE hookup. Very accurate, for what it is, & top shelf for blind barrier rounds in a 223/556.

I really like Hornady 55gr Soft Point training ammo for just about everything.

Is it the lacquer coating, or the bimetal bullets?

My understanding is the lacquer can melt in a hot chamber causing feed/extraction issues. Sounds reasonable but I have no direct experience with it and don't intend to try...just not enough savings for me.

I'm going to continue to shoot the hell out of it. If I run into any of these issues, I will certainly let y'all know.

Or Federal Fusion if you don't have the LE hookup. Same bullet technology.

For me, for some reason, the GD's grouped .75" @ 100yds & the Fusion grouped 1.5" @ 100yds.
