Great buck, was he shot then trailed by the dogs or did they just run him to death?
I would love to see something that large walking if front of me. Not sure I would be able to hold a steady bead on him though.

he had been in the water which caused the coat to look dark

he was fatally injured. Dogs tracked him to pond and then they backed off. He died in the water. Many injured deer will head for the nearest water they can find. Don't know if it true but I heard that when injured their body produces bad acid internally and they go for water -

Very true and a great buck. But for folks that don't care about "score" so much (like myself) he looked better in 2012. Different strokes for different folks and all that but one hell of a buck in any of those years.

Wow...he was impressive in 2012! Thanks for posting the 3 year history. Are there any profile pics of him over the years?

That's cool storyline. Would have been hard to pass it him up in '12. Good lesson for all of us.

Amazing the way you were able to keep tabs on him over the years. To the untrained, it would be hard to tie the kill pic to the 2012 pic. Funny the nuances of genetics, however, as that right brow tine is taller than the left every year. That seems to be the one very distinguishing identifying trait. Congrats on a great buck, and kudos for being patient.

Great deer
Congrats!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
