Always been intrigued by this rifle, although I know nothing about it. In in the market for a semi auto 308. Not limiting my option to just AR10's. Have considered a M1a even though they are a little more than I want spend for a collapsible stock and front rail setup. What the ups and downs of the PTR91? Can they be modified with a good rear stock and newer front rails? How's the accuracy?

I would personally go FAL.

PTR has weird ergonomics (safety in weird place), pain to take apart and reassemble (roller block gun), scope mount is meh, destroys brass if you reload.

Very heavy as well.

FALs are heavy too, but don't have those other issues. My DSA para FAL is my go to hunting rifle right now.

stay far away if not run from any of the g3/fal/l1a1/cetme century built rifle's that's a first. Also if you go fal there are inch and metric pattern rifles depending on its country of origin it gets confusing fast. Also if you buy one that has been messed with its gets expensive fast. Ptr is fine rifle with a good warranty mags are cheaper but roller systems are not , dsa is another great rifle . I saved a century fal sporter that i spent way too much money fixing , and have an imbel that shoots the lights out .

I had one and sold it. The rifle shoots well, is easy to disassemble and built like tank. Field strip is popping 2 pins. The roller assembly goes in an out easily. I never disassembled the roller system but it never got dirty. It's not a gas gun so it runs clean. It will also run steel cased ammo. PTR recommends it over surplus ammo of unknown quality. Some models like mine had a picatinny rail built in the the receiver which is preferred if you want the option of mounting an optic.

The rifle is heavy, mine about 10.5 lbs. The fluted chamber is very reliable but ruins your brass. The safety is impossible to engage without taking your grip off the pistol grip. You would need giant hands to accomplish this feet.

It's high quality HK clone. If you like the HK 91, you will like the PTR.
