I got a call earlier from one of my old college roommates. We have lost touch over the years, so when he calls it either good or bad news. Well this time it was just an interesting story. He hunts out west, I forget where and forgot to ask. Either way he was in the blind this morning and decided after first light to take a doe to get some meat. Well he shot and it took off into the brush, he said about 15 min later a lion walked out headed towards the feeder. Upon further inspection it turned out to be the biggest bobcat he had ever seen, but lacked its spots (short tail, pointy ears, etc). He said it was walking and when it crossed the path the doe took it put its nose down and followed the trail into the brush. He didnt think much of it at the time and decided to wait and see if some bucks showed.

After about an hour he decided to go get his doe and go back to camp. He followed the blood trail into the brush and found the doe with the entire front shoulder eaten off and covered in leaves. I asked why he didnt shoot the cat, and he said he isnt going to shoot one unless he mounts it and already has two.

Said he got a pretty good tongue lashing from his dad rofl

Thought I would share, found it interesting how quickly a predator can make quick work of your downed deer

That's pretty cool, I'm guessing he'll shoot the next one...

Lesson learned. If it had been a coyote it would have been a lot worse.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.
