Recently got a Remington 770... Comes with a Busnell 3-9x40mm... Going to upgrade the scope not a fan of it. Any suggestions of what scope to get without breaking the bank??

I have a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40mm and a Leupold VX2 3-9x40mm and the Leupold is much clearer and sharper -- and an added bonus is about 3/4" more eye relief (not really necessary unless your rifle is a magnum).

I'd like to clarify about the "clarity and sharpness". I'm not so sure it is that, but for some reason it is much easier to get a full sight picture with the Leupold, so you can get on game much faster.

I agree, look at Nikon. I've heard Redfield makes a decent scope too

I think, for that gun, a Redfield will do you mighty fine. They are a best bang for your buck in the ~$150-200 range.

I wouldn't Nikon at all especially some of the ones mentioned.

Minimum vx2 leupold or maybe into some of the viper line of vortex. You might also check out some of the camera land specials on a minox or meopta

Make sure you get good bases and rings

For a 770?

Cameraland had a Minox ZV-3 3-9x40 Mino-Plex or BDC Reticle Riflescope for $99 until just the other day. Sold out, or it might have been a decent alternative.

I'm with BIL on Leupold, though. You can find the older Vari-X II 3-9x40s for around $150 and sometimes less if you're willing to tolerate cosmetic shortcomings. The glass is good, they're tough and reliable, and the warranty is still forever. You won't find a better $150 scope.

Why is Nikon so bad that you would want a Vortex?

My mission here was to match the gun and scope. Not everybody can afford, or need, the latest greatest boom stick. A 770 with a Redfield 3-9x40, and some range time, should serve a very good purpose for killing hogs and deer in Texas under 200yds. Hence, the suggestion I made for the scope.

Good question, for my $ will go with Nikon over Leupold VX III or below any day of the week. Only have one Minox but it is holding up good so far.

Another vote for this. Absolutely best bang for the buck IMHO...

Yes on a 770. In my experience the first point of failure in a hunting rig is not the rifle or the scope, but inexpensive mounting systems.

You are asking about which scope to buy. I see these questions all the time and no one can give you the right answer. You have to look through all of the afore mentioned glass and pick what looks best through your eyes. Of all the scopes I've looked through that cost less than $200.00, the Burris Fullfield II is the best for me. It may be the worst for you. The Vortex Crossfire II is the worst for me but may be the best for you.

If you take every scope made today the VX-2 3-9x40, and the Meopro 3.5-10x44 at Cameraland are the best bang for the buck. Period, fin. But only if you see better through them than other scopes that cost the same or less.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.
