I don't have a problem with folks choosing not to hunt HF. I do have a problem with them being jerks enough to crap on someone's kill because they don't believe a great deer can be killed outside of of a high fence. It's not right for them to be the LF/HF police and challenge every photo and kill. Their derision is unwanted, un-needed and unwarranted. Like in the classifieds. If you don't like the price, shut up and move on. It's like having to be apologetic for being a Christian or eating meat. It isn't right and I don't understand why we are doing it.

And for the exact same reason you should not crap on someone for asking hf or lf when it does matter to them. If hey are not being jerks and still congratulating the OP . Some people just honestly don't care for HF breeding ground "hunting". Nothing wrong with their opinion OR yours.

Last intention was to start the HF/LF debate. I have been on this forum long enough to know just to stay away from that topic because it is a no win situation. You like Ford or Chevy??
I have hunted both HF/LF over my 55 years plus of hunting. The only reason I mention LF in my post is that many people want to know if it is a free range deer or not - simple as that. Every deer contest has a LF category and a HF category - nothing wrong IMO knowing where a deer was taken.

It does matter. Not for the "pet" reason. It is a lot harder to raise a deer and manage a property that is low fenced and achieve these results. Low fence means that you spend 40 k a year feeding protein and the neighbor shoots the deer. High fence this doesn't happen. That is a great deer

Deer management at it's best!

We took our fourth trophy of the season this weekend. This deer is 8 or possibly 9 years old. Scored 172 5/8 typical. He had 27 inch beams and had live weight of 230 lbs. Fantastic slick 10! Congrats indeed
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I used to read every thread here on this forum and post a LOT years ago but got tired of reading all of this kind of stuff and pretty much left. Just come in once in a while to check out the bucks posted and to congratulate each and every one whether it is a HF or LF kill. You see, when we argue amongst ourselves as hunters on places like this, they ONLY people it benefits are the antis........NOBODY ELSE!

tlk,
Awesome deer, the work that went into getting a deer over 170 is admirable not to mention to 8 or 9 years old. Hats off to you and all the guys you work with that spend the time, money, and sweat to have reached the point you're at with your herd. Not to mention the patience and restraint. Enjoy it you've all earned it. Green with envy.
HF LF Debate,
I've never hunted on a high fence quite simply because I can't afford it right now. If I had the chance would I..... Yes. If the circumstances were right for me. I feel there are plenty of HF ranches that are as close to B&C's fair chase as you can get just like there are some that have a high density/acre on a very small tract of land but to stereotype all bucks taken off HF as pet's is ignorant and there are plenty of subjects of which I'm ignorant. As a hunter who has never been on a high fence ranch I can be honest and say I personally wouldn't feel right shooting a deer off a HF ranch that's say only 100 acres but someone else may and that's fine for them but I can also say it dosent matter if the shoot a buck off 10,000 acre or a 10 HF if it's a beautiful animal I'm going to be envious. What I'm not going to do is let that envy turn into anger and judge them for what they are ok doing.

Take the Junco ranch - 44,000 acres HF - one of the best ranches in Texas bar none and has been so for many years. I did a package hunt on it back in the 1990s and took my biggest deer at that time at 165 inches. I assure you the deer were wild and there was no pen releasing. I am very proud of that buck. But I also took a 201 inch LF deer a few years ago. So I have no beef with either - it is great to live in a country where we are free to choose.
