Cool to see bucks posturing. Ears laid back and all fluffed up. Good luck. Perfect morning.

I was out 30+ miles south of Ozona off Pandale road Tuesday thru Thursday last week. There seemed to be a couple of does starting to come in or getting close where several younger bucks would follow but loose interest after just a few minutes. Most sits I saw 10-15 does/fawns/yearlings with several younger (2.5-3.5 yo) 6-8 pointers coming in, passed on a older 7 point cull at least 4.5, maybe 5.5 yo (never got a good look full on sideways until too dark) due to being the first hunt while out there, didn't see him the rest of the time. I didn't see any of the big boys that I had on cam when I pulled cams/cards in March. There is still plenty of food and nothing was overly interested in corn other than the fawn/yearlings and coons of course. I did see something that I am not sure what it was, the back was taller than a grown coon (cause there was one there too to compare) but slender long body, really long slender tail and almost solid black, way to big for a ringtail, not sure if there might be mink, ferret or weasels in west Texas??? definitely not a coyote or fox ... it was eating corn with the fawns/yearlings right at dark on the first day out. (and no, I am not claiming it was a black panther or mountain lion)

Locals said they were extinct from Texas. I still wonder about that...bears, white wing doves etc all migrating north.

PMK,
I hunt north of Ozona off of 190. Hunted 12/8-12/13. Saw some chasing going on but nothing major. Still thinking they're in pre-rut. Several bucks around one another while feeding for a bit but would eventually fluff up and act aggressively towards one another. Had one buck on camera with a broken G3. Heading back out there in two weeks to finish out the season. Keep me posted if you head out sooner than I do, please sir.

we (son, SIL & I) heading out this Saturday (12/19) for a few days while kids/spouses/grandson are in town for Christmas. The last time I was out (Nov. 17-19), they weren't going to corn much at all, does/fawns for a few minutes here and there, but left corn on the ground. I sat one blind from an hour before daylight until noon and didn't see anything, which is very odd for that location down in a deep protected canyon that always has deer. I'll try to post update on things next week upon our return.
