I've wanted a 10MM for a long time. I have buddies that love their Glocks an swear by them. I have shot Glock 40's & 9's and they didn't bug me any. This would be my first plastic pistol.
I like the 15 round mag. I like the price point. I plan on keeping it on my side while hog hunting etc. I have been carrying my 1911, but love the idea of having the 10MM with 15+1
Anyone have anything bad to say about the G20?
Thanks

It's a Glock, that's enough. [/quote] I agree. Rock Island has a double stack 10mm.

Okay... I'm all ears.
Can you tell me why I should avoid the Glock?
That's an honest question and why I posted.
I'm not here to stir the pot.
I'd appreciate some factual insight / experience.
Thanks

Yeah.
They are always breaking down, finicky about what loads shoot out of it, too many bells and whistles, and a piss poor reputation for ultra reliability across the globe; all for a reasonable pricetag.
I'd definitely do something else. There are tons of Sig and RIA still running with hundreds of thousands of rounds through them.

By the way Dredd Gummi Bears post was sarcasm. Glocks are awesome and I would take a Glock over a RIA any day of the week and twice in Sunday. Sig is a sig and great guns but for the price Glocks can't be beat.

Thanks, KRoyal.
I kinda thought that. I've run into his sense of humor before, if I am remembering correctly.
I appreciate the clarification.

I've had a Glock 20 and let myself get traded out of it (majority of my pistols are glock and that's what I rely on). I now have the G40 (long slide G20 with optic mount). I have missed the G20 some, but really like this G40. You can't beat a Glock.

I have a G17, G19, G21, G30, G32, G36, G40 (new) & G43...never had a single problem with any of them! Buy with confidence!
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Thanks Horrible trigger, harsh recoil and bad sights. No matter what you do to your glock, it will never shoot as well as a 1911.

Harsh recoil? Lol.
Tell that to the man people that use Glocks for competition guns. I'm sure they have enough money to buy a 1911 variant yet they choose Glocks.

I've never shot a 1911 but I can shoot the chit out of my glock 22. I don't agree with any of those things.

Tell that to the man people that use Glocks for competition guns. I'm sure they have enough money to buy a 1911 variant yet they choose Glocks. I was that guy. I put over 12,000 rounds through a G35.. I had a Fulcrum Ultimate trigger, ZEV sights, heavy magwell, double undercut trigger guard; it was as raced as you could get a Limited Glock. I decided to go to a 2011 platform, and won the first match I took my Para 16-40 to. Shoot a 9mm 1911, and see how little recoil there is. Then compare a g22 and a 1911 in .40. Then try to tell me a10mm 1911 wouldn't be much more comfortable to shoot, and easier to shoot.

I'll concede to the point that a heavier gun will have less recoil than a poly gun. That's simple physics however I wouldn't call a Glock recoil harsh by anymeans. Especially if you don't shoot full power 10mm out of it, which most ammo manufacturers don't load to.
But that still doesn't mean a Glock can't run as good as a 1911. You have experience with both platforms, but you saying the 1911 runs better is purely speculation and opinion as is mine that a Glock can run just as good as a 1911. To each their own.
Have a S&W1911 I'm trying to sell now to get a G23 and a lot of cash on top.

I'm not saying that either is more reliable than tho other, as I see both fail at about equal rates (seldom, as long as they're being fed decent ammo). I would think for a hunting handgun, however, a gun with a good trigger and sights is at the top of the list.

I change out all the sights on my Glocks anyway so I can't speak to that, but I actually like the Glock trigger of course the 1911 single action trigger is better but for the price you can buy 2 Glocks and maybe a little ammo. Again to each their own.

I don't like the grips, the sights, or the trigger of a Glock. I will say they are very reliable, I just don't like them, and I own a 26 that gets carried everyday, simply because it works. I still think the Sig is a better gun, albeit more expensive, but it's all metal, single action only, and mighty sexy to look at. If I were seriously in the market for a 10mm I'd look at the Sig first, followed by a 1911.

I own 2- G20 pistols, 2- G29 carry pistols, and now a G40, all in 10mm. I'm a huge 10mm freak. I have shot all kinds of test ammo through my G20's and G29's for developing my 10mm ammo line. They all shoot very well. As far as reliability, you will not get anything better than a Glock. I use mine as a tool, not a "collector" item. I use them, not abuse them. They will hold up for anything I throw at them. The Glock may not be a "sexy" pistol, but it is a tool that works in all environments. Now on ammo for a Glock in 10mm. You can not hot rod it. If you run the +P ammo from certain ammo mfg, the pistol will not shoot well and will cause feeding issues. I sell and make a lot of 10mm ammo. Why, because quality 10mm ammo loaded correctly is hard to find on the market. It's either watered down 40 S&W or hot +P ammo. I load my ammo at max 10mm speeds, where the Glock and standard 10mm pistols like. I liked the idea of a 150 grain JHP bullet doing 1460 fps. But these 150 grain rounds only shoot ok. The 180 grain and 200 grain loads shoot lights out. They are the best bullets for accuracy in the 10mm I have found out of my Glocks. The G20 is a great choice for a sidearm in the woods. I keep either my G20 or my G29 with me nearly 100% of the time. http://dallasreloads.com/product-category/10mm-auto/

Love my glock 29 (up until the boating accident), would jump all over a g40 if I had extra the cash.

Got one myself to try out a couple weeks ago and really like it. It's a great shooter and I plan on using it to take a deer sometime before the end of the season.
The only negative is that Glock uses the same 17 pound recoil spring assembly in the G20 that they use in the G21. The 10mm's extra energy generates additional slide velocity, compared to the .45, that sometimes causes the last round in my magazines to be displaced just enough that the magazine follower engages the slide stop with one round left in the magazine, thereby causing the slide to lock back prematurely. The magazine will still fall free when that happens so worst thing that happens is I loose a round by having to reload too early, but it is still not a correct function.
The solution is to order a 22 pound recoil spring assembly, but Glock only makes 17 pound recoil springs for the Gen4 G20. So I had to order an aftermarket 22 pound recoil spring and Gen4 adapter to slow down my slide enough to shoot full power 10mm loads, i.e., anything >/= to 180gr @1250.
If it wasn't for the fact that I really like the Gen4 frame with the medium-beavertail backstrap for my ogre hands, I'd probably have gone with the Gen3 G20SF so I wouldn't have to deal with the adapter and could plug aftermarket Gen3 recoil springs right into my gun. As it is though, using the adapter is no big deal.
On the other side of the coin, the 17 pound recoil spring works great for shooting .40 S&W loads from the G20.

Thanks for the input.
It looks like I'll be grabbing one this weekend if the timing works out.
I guess I should go ahead and get some dies on order as well. LOL

I have a Glock 45 that I call my 1911. It's my favorite pistol just because it fits my hand and hits what I point it at every time. The Glock 10mm is my hunting gun. It is a little smaller for carry, goes boom every time and will derail a speeding locomotive.
Get one. Enjoy it.

Each time you pull the trigger on the Glock, it will shoot reliably. Listen to KRoyal, he knows his stuff.
