Wasn't the barrel burner across the board for the re-opener that we'd normally be happy with, but this year we'll take it. Sat morning it was 70 degrees at 4am, not exactly Dec waterfowl weather. Sun morning the front hit just after shooting time and for those that stuck it out were rewarded. More ducks were seen this(Sun) morning flying around and while we were checking on water this afternoon than we've seen all season. I'm not saying everything is loaded up and busting at the seems with birds, but it's definitely a good sight to see. Hopefully these birds will stick around and we have another front forecasted for the end of the week that might get us into the upper 30's for the first time this season. Few pictures below are from a couple of our day & club hunts.

Switched gears today to give our fresh water ponds even more rest. The bay coughed up good shoots to say the least with variety to boot!

If you count the person taking the pic they could shoot 16. I don't think I see more than that but it's hard to tell how many hens are there.

Usually we have very few if any bluewings right now and all teal would be greenwings. Towards the end of our season in Jan we usually start getting a few bluewings back as they are starting to migrate north from South America. With everything being so far behind schedule this year, we honestly don't feel like we've even gotten the entire bluewing migration yet.

Hunt had a guide and helper, so they could technically have 18 pintails, just FYI

I know what you mean. We shot a blue wing right at the end of the first season and we are pretty far north.

I saw a post the other day showing a guy that shot a bluewing in Missouri just a few days ago.

Solid hunt this morning by one of our club groups up on the prairie. Said they saw more birds buzzing around than they had been seeing. Hopefully the weatherman is right and we’ll get to wear jackets for a couple mornings towards the end of this week.

It's been a mild winter to say the least. So far the only good thing to come from El Nino in our area is that it's filled the lakes back up in Austin so farmers will have water for rice next year. That and the bay systems are in fabulous shape and fishing is awesome!

Another solid morning of hunts! The snows didn't want to play the goose spread but the pintails filled in for them quiet nicely along with the specks.

Another feed in the making!

That should produce in the morning! Seems like a few more birds have arrived in our area. Both ducks and geese.
