Alright so I want to get familiar with handguns and how to shoot them but I'm 19 so I can't buy one or buy ammunition for one if I had one to use, what are my options?

Maybe you could get a parent or relative to help teach you?

That'd be my suggestion.

You might also be able to rent from a range locally. Don't know if they are legally required to have strict over-21 policies, but if they do, just grab a relative and have fun shooting everything they let you.

And if you ever make it down to Kerrville, I'll take you out. Hopefully someone closer will offer the same.

Shoot USPSA. No age requirement to compete. Also, you only have to be 18 for a private sale.

If you want to drive to my place in Quinlan you can shoot some of my handguns. Also what Tactical Cowboy said is true, only have to be 18 for a private sale(individual to individual)

You can still legally possess a handgun at 18. You will need to be gifted the gun and your parents will need to buy your ammo for you. Fossil Pointe near Decatur might let you shoot. The guy running the pistol range also does training.

Here's a list of NRA training within 100 miles of downtown Ft Worth. One of these should be able to help you out.

Below is a link for an outfit in McKinney. This may be too far of a drive for you but I found them to be very knowledgeable and good instructors. They also teach local law enforcement.
