I'm looking at 14 doe and 1 Spike. Please tell me that there are bucks hiding in the brush.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

If you have 15 deer in front of you at once, I just can't feel sorry for you. I won't see that many in a season.

I'm in South Texas. The lease master is old school. He wants us to shoot doe in late January.

We have held off shooting does this year in attempts to keep the bucks around. In years past our surveys called for heavy doe harvest and trying to take the number of does turned our place into WWIII. On a smaller low fence property you just cant do that and still expect to see the better bucks, so we have opeted to buck hunt and shoot the does later in the season.

Why would they step out in the open? Obviously plenty of kitty to go around without taking any chances. Only one way to solve that.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

This is actually not at our 96 acre ranch. This is at my 1,000 acre lease in Starr County. Between 3 hunters Saturday morning at three different blinds, we saw well over 30 doe, and that was covering only about 400 of the acres. We only have 7 guns on the lease, and usually only 3 or 4 of us are there at one time.

very unfortunate the lease master is that uneducated with the information that is available these days with computers. Come January, should be a shooting gallery down there.

$550 per season on 1,000 acres in deep South Texas. Only 7 guns on entire property with no guests allowed. The lease master is an football buddy of my cousin's from back in the early 70s. My cousin has successfully managed similar-sized ranches in South Texas. He's kind of taking over, so we're pressuring the current guy to start being management-minded or we're outta there. We've done a lot of work on the lease since we got there last year and cleaned house of hunters who were not on the same-page as we are. There's potential, so we'll see what happens.

Ever try telling your lease master about how much energy and effort your bucks are putting into breeding those does you're waiting to shoot in late January? Not to mention the fighting, injury, and death caused by all that effort.

That's a good way to look at it.
