Mrs. B and I spotted this buck 2 weeks ago as we were leaving the place, he was chasing a doe right by the highway on the south side. We set up on the west end about a 1/4 mile from where we last seen him hoping he might get hungry. Several small bucks were playing around about 160 yards out when they started getting nervous and then blew out with their tails up. After about 15 minutes I spot a yote coming out of the thicket about 300 yards behind them. I figured the hunt was over so I took a shot at him with the 257 Roy. He was a little downhill and I'm guessing 450 to 500 yards and to be honest I think I went just over the top of his back. He spun around and just looked around trying to figure out what just happen and then trotted away. Right after the shot we seen two does take off to the left and then stop at 200 yards so I figured I put one in the freezer. To get a shot I had to back up about 50 ft to clear some tree's. Back up, stop the truck and start putting the cross-hairs on the big doe when my elbow slips and I hit the horn. They took off and I said to hell with it and started to pull out and head home. As I pulled out I looked back to where the yote was and this guy was standing about 40 feet from the same spot quartering towards me. Found a small clear spot through the limbs and tried a high shoulder aiming about a foot over his back. He dropped like a rock with a broke back and needed one more round in the neck to finish the job. When I go feed Monday I'll step that shot off but it's by far the longest shot I've ever made on a whitetail, it has to be close to 450-500 yards from where I was. He is the heaviest buck I've ever seen taken off the place, I thought I was going to have a heart attack trying to load him. Not as big antler wise I would like but he sure made up for it in weight, he was getting old.

Back on the skyline is a pump-jack and that's where I shot from.
