I bought this years ago as a LR-308 DPMS. I put a JP enterprise match barrel, JP enterprise muzzle break, JP enterprise thermal dissipator, Vortex 2.5X10 FFP scope, JP enterprise adjustable gas block, Troy battle rail, and a Geissele SSA-E trigger. I don't even use my normal hunting rifle anymore. I worked up a load using Varget powder and 168 grain hornady SST's. It will shoot a 3 shot 1 inch group at 300 yards. Have not shot it to 1000 yet, but according to my ballistic software and chronograph it is still supersonic at 1000 yards even with a 16 inch barrel. 300 yard group. 100 yard group.

308 is a good general purpose cartridge.
Kind regards, charlesb

I'm fond of my 308 AR with JP parts as well.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Just under 2500, I did not load for max speed. I loaded for what was the most accurate in this gun.

At 2490 fps, this would be your speeds and come-ups. You'll go through the transonic about 800-850 yards out. The 165 SST has an 8 degree boat tail, so it should stay stable. But it does have a little flare in on the boat tail, so not sure. It's worth a try for sure! 49 moa to 1K, that's a lot of come up.

I just looked at my ballistic chart again and it goes below supersonic at 935 yards, I was wrong saying 1000 earlier. I could speed it up enough to get it supersonic at 1000, but the grouping was more important to me, heck I have not shot it past 500 yards anyways. With a 10X scope it is hard to get real precise past 500. Hitting a person size object is easy past 500 with the 10X scope, but I would not want to try and shoot a deer past that.
