I am looking at a purchase of the Remington 783 in 243. Are their any opinions pro or con? Any reply would be appreciated.

I have one in a .270 and I have no issues with it. The rifle is accurate. I believe it shot the Federal premium 130 the best. It seems that they did not really catch on much and I am seeing some pretty good prices on them now.

Friend of mine has one in 308. We tried for quite some time to get it to shoot and it was all over the place. He finally replaced the stock, with a Boyd's I think, and it started shooting much better. Still not a tack driver by any stretch, but it will shoot minute of deer.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I'm not sure that you're going to find too many fans. On this board the Marlin X7 and the Ruger American are much more common budget choices.

I have shot 2 model 783s and while I like shooting the 25-06 it didn't seem to shoot very strait, May have just been that it didn't like the ammo. My .308 however is quite accurate, can make 1 inch groups at 100. It favors the federal ammo as well, Sierra game king 165 gr

If your stuck on it by all means. For the money savage or ruger american will be a better bang for buck from barrel to recoil pad.
